Based on the posts above, I guess I should be excited that the Jets claimed Pope?

I'm glad he got a job.

I'm not saying he'll ever be the same level of talent (he won't), but this really reminds me of a few years back (pre-Pete) when we cut a UDFA out of Texas A&M who was exceptional throughout the preseason but didn't have the pedigree, and ended up playing pretty good football for the Buccaneers.

We were lucky to get Michael Bennett back.

I can honestly see Pope making some noise in 2-3 years as a Justin Forsett type.

I don't disagree with the Forsett comparison, but then just compare him to Forsett. He was here too Laughing

A lineman jumping off the screen is different than a RB who was getting great run blocking in some games

I was comparing him as a player to Forsett.

I don't recall if Forsett was cut following his first camp, but if so that would've been an apt comparison. I just remember having this same feeling when we cut Bennett.

That is a good point. Pretty sure you're right in regards to not cutting Forsett. Or we at least did bring him back. The Leon Washington comparison is a good one, though he doesn't have quite the long speed

Not only were we lucky to get Bennett back but at a 1 yr / $5mm deal? unreal.

It's taken Forsett 6 teams and 6 years before he broke out. That's a rare occurance. With the Jets, Leon was more established as a returner and 3rd down back and led the NFL a yr in all-purpose yards. He was a stud at FSU, too.

Besides, Prosise is our 3rd down back. Pope didn't have a spot. No spot as a returner, No to a 3rd down back. Buried behind Rawls & Michael. No track record. He had a few nice pre-season runs & returns but really?

Collins fits the Hawks power back. Is more insurance for Rawls & Michael. Has very good hands & size to back up Prosise. Blitz pick up. Everything pointed to keeping Collins. Pope looked better in pre-season but it wasn't enough to unseat a prototypical Hawk back. I see more upside with Collins. I understand the love for Pope. We're a fan base that gets excited about the here & now.

PC liked what he saw with this.....
