Yep it's July.... Yep TC hasn't even started yet..... Yep I'm crazy for the draft!!!! Never too early for these draft threads IMO. Gives us a chance to talk throughout the season about needs, prospects, and just college football in general. I'll be updating the thread throughout the year with top prospects lists, team needs, and I'll try to keep a post of film for the prospects. That way we have the film right there and we won't have to go searching for it. To get started, what's everyone's opinion as of right now as our top 5 needs?

Since he is my adopt a titan, I'm gonna need you to put Hunter on the depth chart. For now anyways. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Top 5 needs for next year imo will be

1. CB
2. ILB
3. OG
4. TE
5. NT

I'm willing to give Conklin the benefit of the doubt for now so I won't list OT a need right now.! Top 5 needs I go now are....

1.) CB - McCourty is getting older and has had injury concerns. Cox is slightly above average and isn't exactly the healthiest either. McCain and Blake are blah.
2.) WR - Until someone breaks out, I'll continue to list this as a need. We got a nice potentially good player in DGB but he needs to put it together. Wright is a FA and hasn't exactly been a great player. Just an above average player to me. Sharpe got hype during minicamp but it's minicamp. Hunter is as good gone, Douglas sucks, and Matthews is a solid #2. Until we get that #1 WR, it'll still be a need.
3.) OG - Chance Warmack is a FA and hasn't exactly earned a 2nd contract. LG is up in the air on who even starts. Hopefully one of these spots will be filled by the end of this season so we're not searching for both OG spots next year.
4.) TE - Walker is on his last contract and it would be nice to find a prospect to develop behind him a year or 2. I have the perfect guy in mind in the 3rd round assuming he declares.
5.) NT - Woods is average and I'm still waiting for Jones to be switched to NT. Hopefully one of Johnson or Jones takes that spot over and we could eliminate this need all together.

I almost wanted to put Pass-Rusher on this list as well. Don't get me wrong, Orakpo and Morgan are a solid duo. But that's just it, they're just solid. Dodd will help improve depth but I feel he'll fall into that category of just solid as well. Great defenses have a good to great pass-rush. Seems to be a good year next year for pass-rushers..... Myles Garrett all the way.

I finally found one person who agrees that Pass rusher is somewhat of a need. Due to their large contracts and injury history, I think at least one of them will be cut.

Anyways, my top needs are:

1. CB - Aging McCourty and Cox, no apparent starting caliber prospects. Could probably draft 2 CBs early next year and I would be ok.
2. OG - Contract year for Warmack and open position opposite of him. (still would be need if Conklin is moved to G)
3. WR - Wright is contract year and DGB has had flashes but need to see it for a whole year. I like Mathews to be a Nate Washington like contributor.
4. Pass Rush- See above comment
5. ILB - Williamson is solid but age and inconsistent play from Woodyard.

Need depth at:
1. QB- need a prospect to groom for backup (think Cousins or Tyrod Taylor prospect)
2. TE- Walker is older and need a prospect to groom
3. CB- We could probably draft 2 CBs early and still need another
4. OT- Need a swing T and possible replacement for Lewan if he struggles
5. S- Rashad Johnson is 1 year. I love Byard and Searcy. Like Stafford but FA. Need a backup S.

With Woodyard actually think once he was put in the starting lineup over Brown he was one of the most consistent defenders.

Yeah Woodyard was really good last year. If I recall right he had the most run stuffs among all ILBs in the NFL per PFF, though his coverage is lacking. He is getting "older" but he's still only 30 so should have at least a couple more seasons left in him.

He's the kind of player that I guess you could replace(decent but not spectacular), but on a team like ours that has so many holes he's far down on the list of those that do need replacement.

In regards to Orakpo and Morgan, our pass rush was fantastic before Morgan hurt his shoulder. Morgan was getting a sack per game(I think slightly above) before that injury hit. That being said, can never have too many pass rushers.

Made a little change... but I'd be perfectly happy with that. I haven't looked at King... is he really a hybrid, etc, but truth be told, I want to get the best CB prospect available... not a guy who's good at both. I'll take a guy who's an 8.5/9 at CB than a guy who's a 7 at both (not implying that's what King is... just stating my preference).

As far as projecting what needs we'll have heading into next offseason, I'd rank them at this premature point as:

1. CB - It's hard to expect an uptick in play from McCourty and Cox at this stage in their careers... and there doesn't appear to be a guy further down the depth that screams #1 corner. Barring some exceptional change, we need to get better and younger pretty fast here.

2. OLB - I'm making a big assumption here, but I'll be a heck of a lot more surprised if Rak plays 16 games instead of <8. For as long as we've been waiting for Morgan to bust through and put up the stats that we'd want from a top pass rusher. I think at this point, he is what he is... a very good complimentary piece on the defense. We need to find our next consistent 10+ sack guy (I was almost tempted to put this as the #1 need). Dodd may be that answer, I'll have to see a lot from him this season to convince me that he is.

3. OG - I have hope that will make a successful transition and be a good fit at one of the G spots. I also think that that Warmack will play at least at an average starter level this season. As much as I wish both would come true, I'm also not unrealistic. Barring something just short of a miracle, one, and maybe 2 OG positions may need to be upgraded next season.

4. TE - Our future #1 would be best served working under the consummate professional/lteammate/leader that is Walker for a year or 2.

5 (tie). ILB - Woodyard was a very pleasant surprise last year, but it'd be nice to slide an impact player alongside Williamson to compliment the defense.

5 (tie). WR - It may only seem that this is one of the biggest question marks year in and year out... oh wait... it actually is one of the biggest question marks on the team? Well then.., carry on...

I meant over his career span with the Titans. (he was bad prior to last year)

David Njoku out of Miami is a TE prospect to keep an eye on. Elite athleticism and size just needs to put up more production. Only a RS Sophomore so he might not come out after this season. He's the guy I'd like to get in the 3rd round to develop behind Walker. Charles Harris from Missouri and DaShawn Hand from Alabama are some more pass-rushers to keep an eye on. Haven't looked too much into OGs yet.

For me its CB, WR, Pass Rusher, ILB, TE with RB being a sleeper.

The Needs
McCourty is aging, in all honesty I wished they would have moved him to safety, but alas he's our best guy. If him and Perish stay healthy and get some pass rush, I think they can hold their own. But we gotta get younger and more talented. The CB class looks deep. WR is obvious with Wright and Hunter's looming FA. I see both being gone next year, unless Kendall has a year worthy of Franchise Tag consideration. Even if a WR breaks out, adding more wouldn't hurt. I think we have some depth at edge rush for the first time in a while, but this will always be a top 3 need for me. Can never have enough quality ones. If a premier one is available in the draft, I hope they are as aggressive pursuing that prospect as they were, with Conklin. As far as ILB goes, its not so much that I want an upgrade, I just think our defense needs a demonstrative leader, and I like having that guy be in the middle of my defense. TE is obvious. I think RB however could be a sneaky one. I think Robinson wants to recreate the early 2000 Pats, and one of the staples of those teams was Do-It-All Kevin Faulk. He was never the main running back, he caught a ton of passes and returned a bunch of kicks. I'm not saying it happens for sure, but considering all the top notch RBs that could be available next year, if Christian McCaffrey slid to the bottom of round 1 or somewhere in round 2. I wouldn't be surprised to see Robinson maneuver those 1st's and 3rd's to put himself in a spot to snatch McCaffrey at good value. I think he, Marcus, and Henry could make some really beautiful music together. And I think his do all ability would fit even in a full backfield with Henry and Murray.

I dunno, I just I think Christian McCaffrey will be the player everyone thought Reggie Bush would be.

Non Needs

I think our d-line will be stellar. I have no concern about NT at all, I'm not sure why so many are, especially in this world of sub-packages. NT gets 30% of the snaps and we're saying its a top 5 need? I think the FO views it differently. I think the o-line has the right pieces in place now. And more so, a better scheme and coaching. Barring injury, I think the group that ends this season will go into 2017 unchanged. This statement could ultimately make me look real foolish, but I think Warmack will ultimately be good enough to make the Titans consider the franchise tag.

Peppers isn't a Corner. He's at best a safety and is playing LB this year for the Wolverines. I'd call him more of a safety prospect.

Seems like Philly has been confirmed for hosting the 2017 draft. Only 2 hours for me, can't wait.
