Yeah this tournament had been disappointing. Maybe this new format explains it.

After a relatively good World Cup, it's back to earth with a below average, defensive, pretty boring international tournament.

Can't wait until the season starts.

Surely 32 teams in the tournament would be better? Would definitely encourage more positive play in the groups. Playing for third shouldn't be rewarded.

In Europe? That's too much. 16 teams is good enough.

Yeah, why not?

They seem set on the 4 knock out round format, but I don't think 3rd place teams qualifying is good for the spectacle of the group stages. It makes teams too cautious.

One of the best stories of the tournament was Iceland, who ordinarily wouldn't qualify for a major tournament. Granted, you're diluting the quality of the tournament with 32, but that's only for the group stages.

Improve the spectacle in the group stage and give us more underdogs to cheer for while ensuring that the 16 knock out round qualifiers earn their spot. I think that would make for a better tournament overall.

I mean then qualifying would be quite poor. It would be useless.

Fair enough.

55 nations under UEFA and you can probably pick 10 who immediately have no chance anyway.

Scotland probably still wouldn't qualify if 32 places were going Laughing Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad

Yeah 32 out of 55.

Say 10 teams have no chance which include: San Marino, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Faroe Islands, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Estonia, Gibraltar, Andorra then another 13 more teams not making it such as Cyprus, Kosovo, Georgia, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Malta then few other small countries. It'd be mad.
