Is it fair? Maybe not, but his running style will cause him to get nailed.

Like I said earlier, this is my only hesitation with him. His durability. The kid takes vicious shots too often. Especially on the run. He doesn't have the innate ability to protect himself while running that you see from a Russell Wilson.

I think a couple shots to the chin will teach him to innately get his rear end down.

I'd like to see the kid get thicker as well, curious to see if he's a legit 6'3" 220 lbs. I'm thinking closer to 6022 214 lbs.

you can see 1" and 6 lbs on TV? That's pretty good!

Mine is a comp to Derek Carr from the combine... they look the same to me when I go through their "tape". Watson isn't thick enough to be 220, 6 lbs shows up on a frame like that.

We'll see Smile

Exactly. I don't get this fake expertise people feel they can get from watching a QB through the TV feed. We have no idea what the receivers or coverage are doing down the field.

We all know watching TV broadcasts can present challenges on a play by play basis during games. But to say after studying numerous games you cannot pick up tendencies and get a feel for how a QB processes the field and how quickly they react to what they see is utterly absurd. Obviously we don't know everything a QB is doing on every play. Nobody here is saying they do.

As usual the pompous, egotistical self appointed gatekeepers of the draft forum have decreed something true so now we have to pretend it is self evident.

There is absolutely no way you can know whether Watson processes information quickly. You don't know what his scheme asks him to do, you don't know what his OC/QB coach is telling him.

Just bloviating nonsense in order to feel superior.

Exactly.

You post on a site related to football in general. I guess since nobody knows what they are talking about on anything because they simply watch it we might as well shut the site down.

He was 210 before last season with the goal to get him up to 215 during the year. Up to 218 before the start of this season. So he'll probably be around 220 come time for the combine.

He's not a bad player, people are just too reactionary to these kind of things. Admittedly, I didn't watch the entire game in fact I really only watched the last 7ish minutes of the game. He didn't really show anything he didn't in the previous 29 games than what he showed in the National Championship. He's a dual-threat QB who can make everythrow, but has some questionable decision making skills.

I agree with this entirely.

He played a great game. He still has some significant flaws that affect how he's viewed as an NFL prospect. Those 2 concepts aren't mutually exclusive.

Definitely his best game I've seen of him after watching it this afternoon (fell asleep before the second half). Despite his detractors giving all the credit to Williams and Leggett, Watson trusts his playmakers and knows where to put it for them to make plays - that counts for a lot in the NFL. It's the same trait I saw in Carr when he would throw back-shoulder jump-balls to Adams and Harper. Watson also excelled as a runner in this game; displaying toughness and vision.

He's going to be one of the toughest evaluations I'm going to do.

When you say that people are too reactionary, are you referring to people on this forum? I haven't seen any posters go from saying he's a 2nd RD QB to #1 overall pick - or anything similar. My experience has been that people who were high on him are still high on him, and people with concerns still have the same concerns. Just curious, because I've seen similar sentiments posted pretty frequently since Minday night.

I was speaking more in general. You've got the casual fans who tunes into watch SportsCenter or whatever and hears his name said often, so they immediately connect him as a good NFL player since you know good CFB players = good NFL players. And if you're not watching him play and analyzing what he does well and what he doesn't, that National Championship game was arguably one of his best games against arguably one of the best teams in recent years. That creates momentum regardless of where you stood on him prior to that. For me, I was probably over-critical of him early on and he's probably going to end up "rising" up the draft board. Does that mean I think more highly of him after that game? No, it just means his draft stock is settling where it was supposed to.

So basically what you're saying is that unless you have 100% of the facts (or evidence), you're not entitled to an opinion? Because that's not logical. You use what tools you have (game cut ups, full games, etc.) to formulate an opinion of what you're discussing. And that goes beyond football. You make an opinion based on what tools you have available. You don't like it? You're probably not in the right forum.

So can anybody reconcile Watson's inaccuracy to me?
