|
|
|
Now that we have a good idea what the roster will look like this year, it is time to start looking at next year's Draft!
What are our potential needs? Who are the prospects to watch this year?
2017 is being hyped up as one of the best classes in recent memory, but we will see how things shake out.
Don't forget the Vikings have the Dolphins' 3rd + 4th round picks, so they will have lots of options. _________________

any chance Jonah Pirsig (LT, Minnesota) could be an day 1-2 pick? Definitely a big boy. _________________

There it is! I didn't want to start it, but I knew this thread would only take a day or two
Lots of good RBs, Tackles, but not so many great looking Safety prospects. _________________

Immediately, I think that left tackle will be our biggest need going into next years draft. Even if Kalil returns to rookie form, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable giving him a long term contract. _________________

I don't remember the last draft that had good safety prospects or depth at the safety position. I feel like this one was one of the better ones in a while. I tend to start looking at CB's who will be safeties in the NFL to determine the class. So players like Antrel Rolle who could have played a bit of CB, but ended up being a much better option as a safety. _________________

Also, someone has to say it, but if Bridgewater has another year like 2015, an early pick will probably need to be used on a quarterback.
Big year for Bridgewater coming up. _________________

It's easily LT and RB for me. Thankfully the draft should be very strong at both positions. I would say that NT, C and S are next but I'm interested to see how Easton and Kearse/Harris develop internally. _________________

I'm quite confident Teddy will develop however.. given the crazy value of QB's these days I think it warrants using one of those extra 3rd, 4th on a tools guy to develop every couple years. NE and Philly did it under Reid and flipped those backups for picks. Now that the roster is young and talented I think a pick every couple years spent on a high upside QB would make sense. _________________

Not a huge fan of Watson for this offense if it comes to that, and I haven't seen enough of Kaaya to make a judgement. After that the cupboard looks pretty bare. _________________

A year like 2015 means they still make the playoffs. That's not bad enough to warrant using a high pick on a QB. A mid-round maybe to potentially replace Shaun Hill as primary backup, especially if Heinecke can't take a step forward, but Teddy? No. His performance thus far has warranted at least finishing out his contract (even through the option year in 2018) IMO, before they even consider replacing him. _________________

I predict 25 touchdowns for teddy this year. If Rudolph doesn't have to stay in and help the tackles pass block that'll open up some nice options for Teddy. |

A year like 2015 from Bridgewater doesn't mean another trip to the playoffs if Peterson and the defense don't have a similar year. It's going to be year three, Bridgewater needs to start playing like a franchise quarterback and start leading the offense to touchdowns, not settling for so many field goals.
And I never said anything about replacing Bridgewater, but competition will be needed. _________________

Potential needs ranked by priority:
1. Starting left tackle.
2. Starting strong safety.
3. Starting center.
4. Base defensive end/nickel defensive tackle. |
