If you cut now, couldn't a team give him a trial run before rosters go from 75 to 53? If the goal is to sneak him onto the practice squad, would think it'd be better to wait for second cuts so that a team grabbing him off waivers would be forced to put him on the 53-man roster.

Agreed. You're not going to cut him early. He's going to be a final cut. I think it's fairly clear who many of the first cuts will be, since they didn't play yesterday. It's much better to take the risk that he won't be claimed on the final cuts, as there aren't going to be many teams willing to put him on their 53-man roster.

Bohringer got in for 17 snaps against the Rams but wasn’t targeted. It must be said, though, that the Vikings threw only five times in the second half when Bohringer played. A likely scenario for Bohringer is being waived Saturday but being added to the practice squad Sunday.

Pause on a feel-good story: #Vikings WR Moritz Boehringer is going to be waived, source said. Practice squad candidate to be sure.

WR Moritz Bohringer on being released today by #Vikings: "Everything is OK. I'm fine.'' Expects to be put on practice squad Sunday.

I don't know how he looked in practice every day, and I don't know how he came off in every day preparation. Hopefully well. But he showed literally nothing this preseason outside of being a gunner. There was no way he should've made this team.

That said, I never thought he'd show anything this early. He's so raw. I'm just as hopeful as ever with him. I really hope he makes it to our practice squad. (Which I don't think will be an issue. The league is stacked at WR, better receivers were cut today, and he showed other teams nothing this preseason.)

I hope he makes it unclaimed. He's got good size and strength, and is a good athlete. I don't see another team grabbing him to put on their 53 man roster, just to be a special teamer - and he's not ready to play WR in The NFL. Maybe he can take a shot at the Vikings WR position in 2017, especially if he plays in some games later this season as a special teamer.

I don't think anyone should be surprised by this, I just hope he makes it to practice squad.

Quote:
He entered the league with some degree of fanfare, a product of the curiosity created on his path from Germany straight to the NFL. But eventually, it dissipated, and Moritz Böhringer was left with this: the often-lonely existence of a NFL practice squad, made more desolate by the fact he was an ocean away from home, undergoing a football crash course conducted in his second language.

Böhringer said he plans to stay in Minnesota for the offseason, possibly working out at the gym Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen opened last summer. The culture, he said, isn't all that different from Germany. And when he finally bought a car, Böhringer splurged on one that wouldn't have worked back home.

"Chevy Silverado," he said as he cracked a smile.

I'm excited to see how he'll develop from last offseason to this year's.

Perhaps he can add 10-20 lbs and learn to block as a TE?

There's no room in the WR crew for him anytime soon, unless Wright is traded during the draft or pre-season or early in the regular season.

We only have 4 receivers, and the team generally carries 6. There's room for Boehringer. He may not make a big impact as a receiver, but given his size and athleticism, there's no reason he shouldn't develop into a solid special teams player.

Unless he is scared to tackle Laughing

I mean he has never been around anything like this before, so it wouldn't be too surprising that he would actually be a little contact shy. Basically think about making a jump from playing high school football, where kids that weight 140 lbs are making tackles and even playing linebacker, to now ur in a league where everyone is big and fast, heck we even have 200 lbs kickers and punters.

Didn't Spielman invite a FA WR to Winter Park recently? If so, he may think Bohringer isn't showing enough progress/ development yet.
