The more I think about this, the more it makes sense (not to me, but thinking about what the Lions are likely to do).

The Lions have stuck with playing the nickel as a base defense, and rarely going with 3 true linebackers, under Caldwell and Austin so far, even after drafting Van Noy. A tweener who can play as an in-the-box safety or a coverage linebacker might be a really intriguing piece to them.

I personally still am stuck on using that first pick on any defensive lineman simply because of the incredible quality and variety available, from nose tackles to speed rush OLB tweeners and everything in between.

My thoughts as well. I would love to have Cravens on this team as a hybrid SS/LB.

Rumor has it the Lions have met with Cravens more than once and has him schedule for a pre-draft visit to Allen park.

The closer we get to tonight, the more I want Cravens. He's a nice hybrid S/LB that provides the versatility and mismatches that Quin and Austin have discussed.

DeAndre Levy and Su'a Cravens in the middle of the field or blitzing creates so many mismatches for our defense. We can play him in all those nickle packages we ran last season to perfection.

Pray

I totally agree! Craven needs to be our next pick. Hopefully he's still there. With Austin coaching him, I see him being a Big contributor.

You guys sure could have used him this year. He was injured, sure, but he made plays in a limited number of snaps.

Yes he did. It's unfortunate that Washington doesn't know how to use him.

I chalked it up to total lack of knowledge.

Agreed, I am pretty happy overall with our first round pick last year.
