I had one of these threads for the Reds a while back, but rather than resurrect that dead thread I figure I may as well start fresh. Here is my predicted opening day Reds 25 man roster.

1. Brandon Phillips, 2B
2. Eugenio Suarez, 3B
3. Joey Votto, 1B
4. Devin Mesoraco, C
5. Jay Bruce, RF
6. Scott Schebler/Yorman Rodriguez platoon, LF
7. Zach Cozart, SS
8. Billy Hamilton, CF

BN: Schebler/YRod, OF
BN: Tucker Barnhart, C
BN: Ivan Dejesus, INF
BN: Jake Cave, OF
BN: Adam Duvall, 1B, 3B, LF

1. Raisel Iglesias, RHP
2. Anthony Desclafani, RHP
3. John Lamb, LHP
4. Michael Lorenzen, RHP
5. Jon Moscot, RHP

LR: Keyvious Sampson, RHP
MR: Chris O'Grady, LHP
MR: Caleb Cotham, RHP
MR: Ryan Mattheus, RHP
MR: Jumbo Diaz, RHP
SU: Tony Cingrani, LHP
CL: JJ Hoover, RHP

If everything goes right the rotation can be passable as young guys take steps forward, and the offense can be middle of the pack, but that bullpen is going to get slammed. The good news is that plenty of very good arms will be coming up over the next 18 months. Injuries can take this team apart very quickly though.

I'll chime in with my top 30 Reds prospects later today.

I enjoy new starts. 2010-2014 was a nice run, but most mid market teams aren't perpetually competitive. I wish we could unload Bruce and Phillips and gear towards the next window. 2017 will be better, and ideally we'll be competing for a playoff spot in 2018.

Brandon Phillips turned down trades to both Washington and Arizona because he couldn't get more money than the remaining 2 years $27 million he is owed. Sigh.

We'll need more than just one of Delvin Perez, AJ Puk, or Jason Groome. I want that #1 for 2017. Want to win something this year.

Juan Duran gets an 80 game suspension for triple stacking PED's. At least he was trying. I don't ever seeing him hit enough to get above AA though.

Starting to hear rumblings of a Bruce trade to the Orioles again. With Frazier and Chapman traded, and Phillips refusing to leave, Bruce is probably getting all the conversation with other GM's. I'd want something like Ryan Mountcastle (Orioles #7 prospect according to Baseball America, and a supplemental 1st rd pick in 2015) in return. If less than that, try to rebuild his value some and trade him this summer. Bruce is 100% healthy now for the first time in about 2 years.

6 Reds made the Baseball America Top 100

32. Robert Stephenson, RHP, AAA
34. Cody Reed, LHP, AA or AAA
51. Jesse Winker, OF, AAA
66. Jose Peraza, SS/2B, AAA (they'll try him at SS again if they are smart)
73. Amir Garrett, LHP, AA
98. Tyler Stephenson, C, Low A

Those are the levels I expect each of them to start at this year. In the BA Top 100 chat they mentioned that Alex Blandino (2B/SS, AA) was close to making the list and could very well be on it next year.

Going into next year I expect Stephenson, Reed, Winker, and Peraza to all lose their rookie eligibility, but I still think the Reds will put 5-6 back into the top 100 next year with Garrett and Stephenson back, Blandino and Nick Travieso making it in there (I think the industry is sleeping on Travieso who has made steady improvement since being drafted and his velocity ticked up this past year), the #2 overall pick in the 2017 draft (I'm guessing one of Delvin Perez (SS), AJ Puk (LHP) or Jason Groome (LHP)) will likely be a top 15-25 prospect, and there are some wildcards, who I could see making a jump (Rookie Davis, Keury Mella, Tyler Mahle, Phillip Ervin, and the Reds competitive balance lottery pick this summer (#35-#40 pick range). So my guess for the Reds top prospects next year would be something like:

1. #2 overall 2016 draft pick (Perez, Groome, Puk)
2. Amir Garrett
3. Tyler Stephenson
4. Alex Blandino
5. Nick Travieso
6. Phillip Ervin (I still believe!)
7. 2016 Comp Bal A Pick
8. Rookie Davis
9. Tyler Mahle
10. Keury Mella

Bruce would be a decent pickup for the Orioles for sure.

Sounds like the word is if the Orioles can't sign Dexter Fowler, then they'll prioritize a trade for Bruce.
