Surprise surprise, the Bills have fired Greg Roman. Should be firing Ryan in the next couple of weeks as well.

I'm actually a little surprised at that - is the offense in Buffalo the issue?

I'm not going to lie - I don't think that Rex is a great head coach, but a bit of a raw deal with Buffalo. Handcuffed a bit last year by the prior regimes deal for Sammy Watkins, then this year, everyone got hurt of suspended

The defense has clearly regressed under Ryan when it should be the opposite. If he can't even get that unit playing up to its potential then what is he doing still coaching that team?

The offense was the problem in week 1 but not yesterday. Though it was very inconsistent through the game even with a few bombs from Taylor.

Ryan needed someone to take the hit for him, and for now that person is Roman. But he knows he will soon be next.

This is hilariously sad. These are the defenses sorted by rushing yards allowed. The gap between us and 31 is the same gap between 31 and 15.

1 Green Bay 431
2 Minnesota 490
3 Seattle 505
4 NY Jets 519
5 Carolina 537
6 Dallas 553
7 Baltimore 573
8 Tennessee 612
9 Philadelphia 616
10 San Diego 631
11 Atlanta 643
12 New England 646
13 NY Giants 655
14 Jacksonville 659
15 Arizona 676
16 Tampa Bay 679
17 Kansas City 686
18 New Orleans 701
19 Los Angeles 730
20 Pittsburgh 747
21 Chicago 749
22 Detroit 784
23 Denver 816
24 Cincinnati 829
25 Indianapolis 830
26 Washington 838
27 Buffalo 875
28 Oakland 898
29 Houston 948
30 Miami 949
31 Cleveland 979
32 San Francisco 1296

---

We are on pace to allow 2962 rushing yards. That would be the 5th worst rushing defense since 1940. Territory nobody has reached in 36 years.

And this is in the modern era where teams pass a lot more and run less.

Terrell Owens and Roger Craig are Hall of Fame semifinalists again. Owens will easily make the finalists list in January, and I think Craig may actually have an outside shot this year as well (though it's incredibly doubtful he's selected from there).

The following 13 are either former finalists from last year, the year before, or in the case of Taylor & Tomlinson, first year players certain to be finalists:

Morten Andersen
Steve Atwater
Don Coryell
Terrell Davis
Alan Faneca
Joe Jacoby
Edgerrin James
Jimmy Johnson
John Lynch
Terrell Owens
Jason Taylor
LaDainian Tomlinson
Kurt Warner

That leaves two of these players:

Isaac Bruce
Roger Craig
Torry Holt
Ty Law
Kevin Mawae
Hines Ward

Ward is in his first year of eligibility as a WR without any records, so he's not a likely finalist. Of the remaining 5, Craig is the only former finalist (2010). I think it will end up being one of the Rams WRs and either Roger Craig or Ty Law. The reason I think Law has a shot is because of the lack of defensive players.

My five guesses for the Hall (from these 15, as the other 3 candidates are voted on separately):

Don Coryell
John Lynch
Terrell Owens
LaDainian Tomlinson
Kurt Warner

Picked Coryell over Jimmy Johnson. This is a good year to be a coach.

This is Lynch's 4th year as a finalist (he and Morten Andersen have been are tied for most times as a finalist). In a relatively weak year, I think this works in his favor.

There just isn't enough star power, and Owens is a star. Plus he's already waited his mandatory one year as a WR.

Not very positive that Tomlinson gets in on his first try, because they like to make RBs and WRs wait. If there's a RB that deserves to buck that trend, it's LT. Of course, the same could be said for Owens last year. But LT doesn't have Owens' issues.

Warner - he's a QB that has been a finalist a few times. In a weak year without anyone obvious who has been struggling to get over the hump, Warner is an easy choice.

---

Almost went with Jason Taylor, but then I remembered that even Michael Strahan had to a wait a year. Of course, Strahan had to deal with a first time class of Larry Allen, Jonathan Ogden, and Warren Sapp in his first year, so that might have been a special case. But if Strahan had to wait, I think Taylor would have to wait. We'll see.

Actually, I just realized I completely overlooked Brian Dawkins as a first-time semifinalist. I think he would make it over Ty Law, and probably as a finalist, which really puts a dent in Craig's chances to get back to that list.

Roger Craig will eventually get in, I think. He's just going to have to do it as the senior nominee. I believe he becomes eligible for that list in a few years.

Did pretty well on the finalists cutdown. Had Atwater and James over Mawae and Ty Law (having Dawkins and Bruce as the more likely two). Not bad.

Don't know if this ended up elsewhere and I overlooked it, but Buckner was selected to the all-rookie team:

At least Baalke didn't mess that one up.

He was awesome. It's just a shame that Armstead who was supposedly by far our best player in camp suffered an injury before the season and was never able to recover from it. Can't wait to see these two next season.

I agree. I think with those two healthy and continuing to develop, either Garrett or Barnett (who I finished scouting and currently have as the #4 guy in this draft) as the draft pick, and an ILB to compete (even though I really liked what Armstrong offered in his short stint), this defense could be really good with the right tutelage.

Nickel look (majority of plays):

Barnett/Garrett, Buckner, Armstead, Lynch
Bowman, (ILB)
Ward, Brock, Robinson, Reid, Tartt

It's not perfect, but the improved front should allow the defensive backfield to improve.

Definitely. Getting Barnett or Garrett would be the easiest way to get the defense back on track. ILB is also a position of need, but if Bowman is healthy then the trio of himself, Armstrong and Hodges isn't too bad for the time being.

The back end of the defense will not matter until the front 7 improves.

Who are your top 4 players of the draft?

Garrett, Barnett, Fournett and who?

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Allen.

Hooker is legit.

Foster in the bottom 10?

If Buckner takes a similar step as Armstead seemed to have made (before injury, he looked terrific), and Armstead comes back in full force, then we'll have some serious man power on the line. We just need that rusher with closing speed to really finish off opposing QBs.
