Someone had posted an article from Arif about the possibility of keeping 2 QBs at ~$38 million. Tagging Bradford and picking up Teddy's 5th year option ($18 million per Arif's article) would be around ~$41 million tied up in the QB position not included QB3.

That seem's high....

If he's playing well enough to merit the Vikings picking up his fifth-year option, he'd make the average salary of the third- through 25th-highest paid QBs in the league

Also remember, Tony Romo just retired, removing an $18 million contract from the average. The number I just got was $15.6 million, though I'm sure that could change.

I also got the $15.6 number, heck even including Flacco and Luck the average of the top 25 is $16.3.

Has anyone heard any rumblings about 5th year options for any 2014 1st round picks?

Ryan and Carr could also be looking at new contracts, will impact the figure as well upwards.

Wouldn't those new deals need to be done before the 5/2 deadline?

Arif redacted the 18M figure; says it's more likely ~14M

I still don't think he will get the 5th year option. He isn't going to sign for that kind of cash anywhere else. I just don't see it. Most likely going on 2 years of no playing time or practice, and coming off that injury. I still believe what would be most likely is trying to look at him and sign him to a 3 year type of deal, and I believe he would take that.

Doesn't have to be. They're not in any rush I think.

How can that be? If their deals were done after the 5/2 deadline that couldn't have an impact on the 5th year option. I honestly have no idea if it would or wouldn't.

Teddy's future's a tough call. Would it seem logical to see how he's progressing in early July and then do a 3 yr extension for $10-12 mil/yr with 8-10 guaranteed?

If not something like that? then a.) his knee ends his career, or b.) the Vikes do not pick up that 5th year and allow him to test the FA market . . . again going to the well to try and find a QB for the future.

@AdamSchefter: Vikings likely to pass on Bridgewater's fifth-year option:

Probably just speculation but the fifth year option never made sense to begin with.

I do think Teddy is the type of guy that is going to want to stay here and prove himself rather than trying to chase slightly more money with another team, so locking him in with that guaranteed contract probably isn't necessary.

I'm starting to realize that. Hopefully they can work another deal out next off-season to keep him in MN. [/b]

Spielman: "Nothing is concrete or no decisions have been made. Teddy, I can tell you, our first week of offseason workouts has been incredible. He’s been in here working as hard as anyone, fighting his way back. I wouldn’t put it past that kid how quickly he can come back, but it’s still unknown."

If Bridgewater goes on the PUP to start the year and doesn't come off this year, his contract rolls over into 2018, just something to consider.

Quote:
On Teddy Bridgewater: This is his last contract year. If he started on PUP & never came off for ’17, his contract tolls. It adds a 2018 year

What does add a 2018 year mean in relation to

Implications if not picking up 5th year option ?
