An updated cap article this morning from McFarland over at RSR:

http://russellstreetreport.com/2016/01/04/baltimore-ravens-salary-cap/2016-salary-cap-preview-v2-0/

Quote:
First and foremost among them will be getting a restructured contract extension done with Flacco. If that is done in a timely fashion (by February-early March), the team will be in good shape. If no deal can be reached and the negotiations linger into the spring, the team may have to release a lot of players, restructure a lot of deals or sit out much of the early offseason. If so, it could be a long offseason, with little done to drastically improve the teamís roster.

Now, obviously, the Ravensí Front Office will get under the Cap and will create some Cap space to allow them to make moves, but as this present year has shown, it may well be a struggle. The 2015 Ravens ended the season with around $1.6M in available Cap space, but that has essentially been provided by two contract restructures (Suggs in March, Zuttah in October) and a contract extension (Yanda in September). Over the last 10 or so years, the Ravens have made it clear that restructure of contracts (and creating Cap space today at the expense of future Cap space) was something they would NOT do (and have only done on rare occasions). Yet, this past season, they needed to do so twice in order to create Cap space.

Spoilers: Dean Pees will be back next year.

The Ravens defense finished 2nd the second half of the year including best passing defense. This will be enough to keep Pees around for another year, so lets just get this out of the way now.

Ahh, so when a unit performs well in stats against lousy QB's, its a testament to the awesome-O Darth Pees?

The defense was horrific the first half of the season and a big reason we where 1-6. After the bye week, we played a bunch of scrub QB's where we minimized their ability to pass the ball by letting them run all over us. After the bye week, we played Bortles, Keenum, Davis, Tannehill, Wilson, Smith, Roethlisberger, McCarron. Thats not an impressive bunch of QB's, so I wouldn't brag and point towards stats allowed.

That said, I'm pretty sure Pees stays, too bad.

Random, but we should give Justin Blackmon a chance. What would we lose? Boom or bust type accquistion that wouldn't hurt us at all.

Didn't he just get busted with another DUI ?

I think it's safe to say his NFL career is over. He should get his life together before trying to come back.

The dude hasn't touched an NFL field in how many years? Has issues off the field, would send a bad message, and would be a media nightmare.

We'd lose credibility which is worse than anything he'd bring to the table at this point.

It's almost like the win against Pittsburgh erased the memory of the game against Seattle just two weeks prior.

Seattle just did the same to Arizona. Listen, I want a change at DC as well, but lets be real, it's not going to happen because of this turn-around.

I remember where Greg Mattison's defenses with Baltimore ranked. There's always hope.

But not much if it's up to Harbaugh.

Should expect an announcement in next day or so on which PS players the Ravens will sign to "future" contracts for '16. Usually re-sign most

Minor news, but something.

And were still 23rd in scoring defense over that time period. We did great vs. Roethlisberger but the only other comptent QBs we faced during that time period - Russell Wilson and Alex Smith - had their way with us. Granted the defense did look improved as a whole over the second half of the season, but part of that is simply because of how bad the first half was - there was nowhere to go but up.

I'll be really disappointed if they use something like that '2nd ranked defense in the time span and metric of our choosing' stat to justify keeping Pees. Still not really sure which way it'll shake out, I'm assuming we'll know either way by Thursday when the State of the Ravens press conference is scheduled for.

Probably. It would take some really good luck for him to drop to six, especially past Jacksonville.

I no, I'm just saying with all the bad luck we've had this season it would be nice if it just went our way.
