Does the Chris Young signing mean he'll be the 4th OF or is JBJ/Rusney getting moved?

The numbers should be telling, but my guess is he is the 4th guy understanding that there is a distinct possibility he will replace a young guy not swinging well.

Yeah, I think he's a platoon player right now and acts as insurance. I don't think they'll move a young guy. You can't go into the season with only 3 starting OFs.

Chris Young can hit LHP. He has lost a bit of his speed, appears to be losing some range in RF and had a .585 OPS vs. RHP last year.

He's a potentially a nice fit in a limited role. Problem is, we've seen Farrell go away from platoon splits before (e.g. his love affair with Gomes)

Nothing wrong with Young as a platoon piece but I'd prefer a Farrell-proof roster. There's plenty of reason to think that Castillo's first slump will result in Young being an every day player.

I also really hope we don't see Young as an every day player at any point next year.

@JonHeymanCBS: Red sox sign David price, 7 yrs, 217M. Boston Globe 1st

Pending physical. 7 years at 31 per. Largest SP deal ever. The years we knew would be the hardest part to swallow about this deal but you take the lefty proven ace for the first 4-5 years and worry about the last two when you get there. Arguably added best closer and best lefty SP so far this off season.

Love it. Don't mind the money, they painted themselves into a corner and this is what it took to get out.

By the sounds of it he signed a 3 yr opt out that pays him $30m a year for the first three years. If we win a ring and he leaves by those three I'm happy.

That's the cost of doing business. Everyone wanted their ace, I don't want to see anyone complain about the price (no pun intended).

So #14 is retired by Sox for Jim Rice, any early guesses as to what Price wears during his Sox tenure?

@GordonEdes: Worth noting that David Price in 2015 did not allow a stolen base. Two runners were thrown out attempting to steal. That's in 220 1/3 IP

Just need to dump Sandoval and Ramirez, find decent corner infielders and bolster the bullpen a bit.

Won't happen, unfortunately. Stuck with Cherington's disasters for a few more years most likely.

But the Sox won't go over the luxury tax/won't be able to afford an "ace"!!

So happy we got Price. Is the contract hefty? Yes, but it's not my money, it's Henry's. Never understood the people who complain big contracts in a non-salary cap sport. They're the Boston Red Sox. They're always going to be able to cut checks if they want.

Price is an elite pitcher, who's proven he can pitch in the AL East already. They got their guy and the guy I wanted. I'm pumped.
