The Packers were apparently able to keep one of the top pass-rushing outside linebackers off the market. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Packers have locked up Nick Perry to a new five-year deal, keeping him from becoming an unrestricted free agent this afternoon.

Perry, a former first-rounder, struggled for his first four seasons, totaling just 12.5 sacks. But in what is just extraordinary timing, he responded with 11.0 sacks in a contract year, finally showing the potential.

We learned this week that Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion will be suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season. That suspension will cost Guion four weeks of his base salary of $1.7 million along with four $50,000 weekly roster bonuses. The alterations to his contract won’t stop there.

Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports that Guion and the Packers have agreed to move a pair of offseason roster bonuses into the regular season. Guion was set to receive $400,000 on Saturday and $400,000 more on May 2, but there will now be $300,000 bonuses due in Week Nine and Week 15 of the regular season.

The shift allows the Packers to avoid making a decision about paying or parting ways with Guion at this point while also giving Guion the offseason to show the team that he’s worth bringing back come the fifth week of the regular season.

When TE Jared Cook was on the field for the Packers last year, he was pretty good, but he’s apparently not heard enough from them to want to stay.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the free agent tight end’s talks with the Packers have broken off, and he’s set to take some visits. The Bills, Lions, and Bears have been mentioned as being interested, though more teams could emerge.

Mike Garafolo‏ @MikeGarafolo
Elsewhere on the TE front, Jared Cook's chances of returning to the Packers seem to be completely nil. He'll visit elsewhere.

Aaron Rodgers with Jared Cook in 2016 (incl. playoffs):
TD: 34
INT: 3
Rating: 113.4
W-L: 10-3

and w/o

TD: 15
INT: 6
Rating: 92.3
W-L: 2-4

No wonder why A-Rod wants his tight end back....

Former Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is signing with the Packers, per source.

Lose Cook and get Bennett. That's an upgrade

Very solid move for the Packers. Good blocker, and a better receiver than Cook.

The WLB may have just become a little more important.

Packers will still go 3WR even with Bennett, IMO. Still will likely see only two LB on the field; especially if Lacy is gone.

Now they just need to do something to stop their defense from giving up nearly 50 points in the NFC Title Game.

Not a big deal but,

Ian Rapoport‏ @RapSheet
After visiting the #Packers, DT Ricky Jean Francois is signing a 1-year deal for $3mil with GB.

Basically a nice depth signing for them. Might get some starting time with GB's weak defensive line. Here are his career stats.

Guion suspended for 4 games, keep in mind.

Maybe it's just me now, but after thinking about it for a few weeks, I'm not all that impressed with the signing of Bennett. Outside of his 1 year in NE, he's largely been a disappointment his entire career. IMO, he may be an upgrade over Cook, but I'm not quite sure of that.
