Good for him, he has been a great gunner and a great Kick returner. One of the best if not the best all around special teams players in the League this year.

Not advocating one way of the other...but, after this season, what would Pattersons' trade value be?

Patterson:

-Special Team monster on kickoffs and as a gunner
-Improved as a short passing WR
-Little potential as downfield passing WR

*assume, MIN has made sufficient cuts where there is more then enough dollars left to make a splash in free agency [if they can]).
*C Johnson is not in the early plans
*Wright is on roster but a potential cut [still]

Pre-free agency period, assuming a 3-4 year deal, what is the most you would be willing to give Patterson?

I'd give Patterson a bit more than what Wright got. Probably $4-5M per year.

If Wright and Johnson are both gone, I push for the $4-6M range but I don't know if that would be enough to keep him here. Mike Wallace, Travis Benjamin, and Mohamed Sanu last year were in that $3-6M range, with increased cap, Patterson still being young, and how everybody could look back this year and see improvement and know what ability he has, that $4-6M range is not out of question.

One factor that may adjust his price is seeing the top tier WR in FA this year.
Jeffery, V. Jackson, D. Jackson, Britt, Floyd, Pryor, and Wright will all likely be a higher priority and receiver bigger contracts.
His range will be in the running with Stills, Wheaton, Woods, Butler, and Kerley.
There is a lot of very good FA WR this year.

Diggs, Thielen, Treadwell, and Patterson going forward isn't something bad to go in with if we don't end up paying a big price like some of the top tier FA.

I wouldn't pay over 4 million for Patterson. The hope would be that Treadwell emerges as the third receiver and Wright is still under contract and there isn't much to gain in cutting him, a couple million. I'd pay Patterson mostly on his ST ability and ability to be a decent WR. I feel 3-4 million per year is fair. I can't see any team paying him to be a 1 or 2. Patterson is a player ID love to bring back but it isn't a huge loss. Sherels is a fine return man himself and gunners aren't too difficult to find. We are covered at WR if he leaves.

Dwayne Harris, a special teams and return specialist, who can offer a little as a receiver for a 5 year, $17.5M deal.

That what I would think Patterson is worth, and I certainly wouldn't go any higher than 5 years, $20M.

I'd offer 3 years, $10M. If he doesn't like it, let him test the market. I still feel good with Wright, Treadwell and possibly Charles Johnson as my WRs 3-5. And I'm confident in Sherels as a KR.

Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson is one of the most dangerous returners in the NFL due to his speed and playmaking ability. Patterson owns two of the top five speeds for fastest ball carrier on a kickoff return this season, reaching speeds of 21.66 mph in Week 1 and 21.48 mph in Week 11.

For a fun reference, Usain Bolt's top speed was 27.8 mph!
