Tell me how to disappear a background

Let's say I had a picture.
I wanted to post the pic on here but I didn't want it to have the background on it, just have the focus of the pic only, and i didn't want it to have a background I made or whatever.
Rather, I wanted the background to be nonexistent. So if I were to post it on here, all the gaps with no background would be filled in with the gray of ff's page.

dumbest wording ever but idk how to explain it better than that.

IIRC you are working on MS Paint right?

If so, you can't.

Laughing yep. I use photo bucket too and I had gimp on my last laptop

Laughing yep. I use photo bucket too and I had gimp on my last laptop
well, if you were using gimp, you just need to right click on the layer and find where it says "add alpha channel", click it, and then the background would be transparent wherever you erased on that layer. But, MS paint doesn't have that feature. I'm sure if you search enough on google you could somehow find a way to make it work Laughing

How does gimp know the layers? Do you have to cut out a silhouette of your image or something?
