Zimmer stated in today's presser that Wright was excused from practice for "personal reasons," not anything injury related.

There were some twitter pics of him at Carribou Coffee today. Not sure if charity related or not.

It's difficult to overstate what an amazing season Antonio Brown has had. Yes, statistically he's been immense: He leads all wideouts in targets (102), receptions (71), receiving yards (996) and is tied for second in TDs (8 ). He's on pace for a 126/1,771/14 season; that would be the second-most catches and fourth-most yards ever in a single season. But what makes Brown even more amazing is that he's doing this primarily as an outside receiver, at 5-foot-10 and 186 pounds.

To proclaim that I can just snap my fingers and locate the next smaller player who fits this description is, shall we say, ambitious. Clearly, nobody I'm about to mention has proved anything close to what Smith or Brown has, but here are a few candidates:

Jarius Wright, Minnesota Vikings: You might be surprised to know that Wright has lined up as an outside receiver on about 84 percent of his routes this year.

Wright's performance in Week 4 against an admittedly poor Atlanta Falcons defense was positively Brown-esque.

Wright has looked more promising this year than Patterson in Turner's offense. I hope that we continue to get Wright involved, he's the most reliable vertical threat on the team.

Well, Patterson did get open several times down the field but...we all know what comes after that.

Although Jarius Wright was used as the No. 3 receiver throughout the season he played in 50 percent of the snaps on the season he finished second in both receptions (42) and receiving yards (588) among the receiver corps. It continued his career ascent. As a rookie, he had 22 catches for 310 yards, and last year he caught 26 passes for 434 yards.

Wright: Im kind of pleased, but at the same time I know I can do more. Next year is just up to me to come out and start earlier this year instead of so late in the season. I feel as long as I can keep getting better each and every year that Ill be where I want to be in a couple years.

I definitely plan on making the trip out to Miami [and work with Bridgewater]. I know Im going to give my body a little time to rest and Im sure hell do the same and well get together and definitely work on some of our timing.

I would not be shocked to see Wright take over for Jennings after next season.

This is only because the second receiver spot was split between Patterson and Johnson, not some career ascent to become a No. 1 or even a No. 2 option.

I am baffled he doesn't play more. He has been good when given a chance.

It's tough to break through as a 5-9 WR. Not many guys have done it.

Jarius also has been the type to get nicked up often during games.

I think Jarius fits in perfectly as a #3/4 guy. There is nothing wrong with that.
