Denver Broncos ----- @ ----- - San Francisco 49ers

----------- Sunday, 4 PM - EDT -----------

Ten 49ers to watch vs. Broncos on Sunday
http://www.sacbee.com/2014/08/16/6633210/ten-49ers-to-watch-vs-broncos.html

Quote:
4. Jimmie Ward. No. 25

No team attempted as many passes last season as the Broncos, which means the 49ers' nickel defense ought to get plenty of work. As a result, fans ought to see a lot of the 49ers' first-round draft pick, Ward, who has had a strong training camp. Opportunities in which Ward is matched against veteran receiver Wes Welker promise to be an excellent learning experience for the rookie.

5. NT Ian Williams. No. 93

If the game resembles the recent practices, Williams will get a smattering of snaps, including any along the goal line. He's been seemingly unaffected by the leg fracture that sidelined him for so long. Still, there's been little game-like physical contact in practices and the Broncos' offensive line ought to offer the push he needs to truly gauge his readiness.

VIEWER'S GUIDE TO BRONCOS @ 49ERS

Quote:
Itís unlikely Colin Kaepernick will play more than two series. That means Blaine Gabbert will have a chance to redeem himself after a poor showing last week against the Ravens.

The unsettling development of the week for the 49ers has to be the absence of Patrick Willis from practice. While the team was in pads, Willis was in a jersey in shorts. He didnít appear to be dealing with anything major, but the cause for his absence has not been disclosed. Willis was unable to stay healthy at the beginning of last season, breaking his hand early in training camp and then dealing a lingering groin issue that never appeared to fully heal. Donít expect Willis to play Sunday after he stayed on the sideline in Baltimore.

So we will be starting Whilhoite and Borland? You can't ask for a better test going up against Denver. I'm very interested in seeing how much Manning picks on Ward in the slot. The rookie will have his hands full but that's what you want in preseason.

At least give Kap two drives tomorrow. I want to see the starting offense go up against a much improved defense in the Broncos a few drives

Hopefully Gabbert has a better showing, but the recent practices haven't been encouraging.

Good test for our CBs, but I don't think Brock is playing.

Atmosphere looks pretty electric for a preseason game.

Stadium looks gorgeous.

We get the ball, lets see what our offense could do.
