I think I understand the strategy we are employing.

Make everyone think the defense is terrible so they start the backups against us and rest the starters, then we pounce when the games count.

I am not going to lie...our OL looked damn good. There were holes for days. And that was without Romo, Dez and Murray.

I worry about the gaping holes on defense. Hopefully, its just because its preseason game 1. But, they look to be a team to give up some running yards on defense imo.

Justin Durant said the problems that surfaced resulted from a lack of discipline. Players weren't firing through the right gaps, according to Durant.

And defensive end Jeremy Mincey said the Cowboys were simply too aggressive at times, overrunning draw plays that proved effective against Dallas’ Cover 2 scheme.

I watched part of the second quarter and that defense looked horrible. Granted, most of them were scrubs who will be bagging groceries next month, but our defense is going to be brutally bad. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up being a 5 win team given how pathetic our defense is.

Alright, let me see if I can boost your spirits just a tad. I didn't get to watch the entire game as I was doing the cooking for our weekly club meeting. But I did notice the defense had no:

1. H. Melton
2. Mo Claiborne
3. B. Carr
4. D. Lawrence
5. A. Spencer
6. J. Brent (IF he is reinstated)
7. Didn't recall seeing Selvie out there (May be wrong on this one)

Offense had no:

1. Romo
2. Bryant
3. Murray
4. Witten (Again, don't recall seeing him either)

O Line is going to be a beast for years to come.

WR corp looks pretty darn good as does the running game.

Again, remember my "fantasy" about this defense this year. You are going to see it struggle until we get back some of the aforementioned names. And I'm really banking on J. Brent being able to:

1. Get reinstated
2. Be ready to play
3. Contribute adequately to stuffing the middle. Not great, but certainly better than what we showed last night.

And please keep in mind, we didn't have 2/3 rd's of our secondary in there AND our biggest FA signing was out along with McClain, for whatever that is worth.

NOW, on the other side of that pancake, for future reference, STOP TRADING VALUABLE PICKS FOR 1 DAMN PLAYER!!!!!! The risk is too high for injury, bust, other (other being something to get a suspension or something along those lines).

Right now, between the Claiborne trade up and the Lawrence trade up we could have a 2nd and 3rd round DL player in the line up last night. Instead we have none AND we missed both of those players due to injury.

Sorry guys, but this is a result of the decisions this team has made. And the shame of it is our offense has the potential to be top 5 in the league in this year.

But again, let's try to keep this thing in perspective and recognize we were without half of our starting defense all night.

With that said I am optomistic that things can only get better.

I think another thing worth mentioning is it's the preseason...you shouldn't be looking at the unit as a whole, but at individual performances, and I saw plenty of solid individual performances from non-starters on the defense last night.

Davon Coleman was all over the place, Ahmad Dixon showed some flashes, Anthony Hitchens needs some work but overall played well and Terrance Mitchell is not going to go away without a fight. Dartwan Bush showed some flashes. Crawford was in on a limited number of snaps but I also was impressed by what little he was able to show.

Starting d was

Crawford, Hayden, Coleman, Mincey
Wilber, Durant, Carter
Webb, Wilcox, Heath, mitchell

And almost all of them came out after one series.

Selvie did not play. I'm pretty sure scandrick didn't either.

Add Ken Bishop and Martez Wilson to Des's list of guys that showed a little something last night (which list I otherwise agree with)

Holloman, on the other hand, was disappointing.

One other note, I saw Wilber take one pass rush snap against their 2nd team and he absolutely blew by the guy.

I could care less about the score, I want to see if any of these young guys will be able to contribute. Most of these guys will be on the streets in 2 weeks. I wonder if the Pats fans are as worried after the Redskins had their was with them??? I think not, relax guys, I get it that the D is not gonna be good, but I think this team will win more than 5 games, we shall see Smile

I get what you are saying. That's a lot of talent to be down. But we are a team plagued by injuries every year, and the look of our backups left a LOT to be desired. A lack of depth has killed this team for years, and this year doesn't look any different...

I also liked how Randle ran on offense when he was in the game. How about Martin?? He was pretty good. Our defense is in serious trouble.

To win this season we have to control TOS. Running more, passing not less, but less, Ya know? If we can keep other teams off our defense, maybe they can learn enough in time to make a play or 2 by mid-season.

If not, we are 6-10.

He was overall. Only had one bad play where he bit on a stunt.
