Sad to see it happen to someone so young. He could have been atleast a good change of pace back when healthy.

Quote:
New York Giants doctors are shutting down running back David Wilson due to the neck injury that he sustained last week in training camp, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

There is a belief that the injury could be career ending, the source said.

Wilson had spinal fusion surgery in January to repair a disk problem and wasn't cleared for contact until July 21. He practiced with the Giants for the first week of training camp, but he left the field last Tuesday after a collision in practice with guard Eric Herman, and he was diagnosed with a burner.

One of the best pure athletes I've ever seen at the RB position. This news is as sad as it gets for me. Big Hokie fan and the fact this guy may never lace em up again is such a freaking shame.

He flashed his potential a couple times, that Saints game in particular. It's always a shame when neck injuries end a career.

I hope he can find purpose outside of football and lives a full, healthy, productive life off the field. But his career is done and he needs to accept it. He's not Peyton Manning, he plays a position where there's constant contact on his body.

Well, can't say I'm surprised. Prayers to Wilson and his family, and I hope he can recover and maybe play NFL football again one day.

he shouldn't bother playing again. The neck injury won't just "go away". Its going to stay with him for his life. He must be careful, and football is anything but. Hopefully he's aware of this.

Its a shame really. I hope he finds purpose in life outside of football.

This is a shame. With a serious neck problem at his position, he may be just as well to never play again. Hopefully it doesn't give him any problems going forward.

There's always coaching.

Last year, Jonathon Franklin was "shut down" with a similar neck injury. We all know how that turned out. Hope the best for Wilson, but after seeing how the Franklin situation played out, I'm anything but optimistic about his future in the league.

Yikes... career-ending? You always hate to see these kind of things.

Best of luck to David Wilson during the recovery process and the rest of his life, if he isn't able to return.

This is heart-breaking. Oozing with talent, outside of Adrian Peterson maybe the most physically gifted RB in the league. Terrible. He should not have to go out like this. Its a sad day.

He's walking away guys. He's officially calling it a day.

That sure as hell is a better attitude than I think I would have in that situation. Best of luck to the man.

I'd be depressed as hell. Really sucks that he doesn't get a fair shake.
