Vs.
Where:
When: AUG 9 7:30PM EDT
Giants draft:
Round 1, Pick 12 (12th overall): LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr.
Round 2, Pick 11 (43): Colorado State C Weston Richburg
Round 3, Pick 10 (74): Syracuse DT Jay Bromley
Round 4, Pick 13 (113): Boston College RB Andre Williams
Round 5, Pick 12 (152): San Diego State S Nat Berhe
Round 5, Pick 34 (174, compensatory): USC LB Devon Kennard
Round 6, Pick 11 (187): Notre Dame CB Bennett Jackson
I asked Giants mod Acgott for an update on how the Giants are doing:
On the Draft:
Draft was ok. I don't browse the internet for tape on players or look at "experts" opinion so I don't know a lot about the players.
I did want Aaron Donald in the 1st. Not because I have ever seen him or OBJ play, but I always want defensive line players. In FFMD 1, I pushed hard for Kony Ealy just because he was a DE.
OBJ is dealing with a hamstring injury right now, so its a little disappointing when you hear Aaron Donald is doing well in camp, but I am not going to freak out after a few weeks of training camp in his rookie year.
I was very happy that the Giants next two picks were OL and DT. The trenches were awful last year for NYG, so its great that we addressed them.
Also hearing very good things about our 5th round draft pick, LB Devon Kennard, so that's good. Hopefully he can be a steal for us. Our 4th round pick, RB Andre Williams has also been very good in training camp. Hopefully he helps our non existent RB game.
A little worried we didn't address DE. Hopefully our current players can take the next step.
On Camp:
Camp has been okay besides from dealing with some injuries. RB David Wilson injured his neck again so who knows if he will ever come back. WR OBJ is still dealing with his hamstring injury, LB Jon Beason has been out since minicamp.
Giants had a ton of turnover all over the roster this season, so its hard to get a great idea who will be a training camp star into a regular season bust.
There are some growing pains with the offense and defense, hopefully they can put it all together.
Breakout candidates include WR Rueben Randle and DT Johnathan Hankins.
The organization and Eli:
The whole entire Giants offense was bad last year not just Eli. We had a WR in Hakeem Nicks that decided he didn't want to try anymore. The OL was awful at 4 of the positions, and the running game did not have a single rusher over 500 yards.
This year we switched to a quick passing offense. Signed two new interior OL starters and drafted another in round 2. We spent a 1st round pick on a WR who hopefully will get back on the field soon and signed and drafted two RB's.
Back to Eli, he was awful last year as well and he should receive a large amount of criticism. If there one thing we learned about Eli over the years is that he can easily bounce back from a horrific season.
If he doesn't though or the offense takes longer to come together the Giants could be looking for a new starting QB extremely soon.
Season prediction:
I hate doing season predictions as I only truly focus on the Giants and I can't even get a good feel for them this year. I'll say the offense comes together and
defense plays well in a weak NFC East. 9-7 seems like a fair and boring prediction.
Thanks again to Acgott for the interview.

Top 5 young players I look forward to watching this pre-season:
1. Markus Wheaton
2. Sean Spence
3. Shamarko Thomas
4. Jarvis Jones
5. Martavis Bryant/Justin Brown
HM:
Worilds
Archer
Shazier
Mitchell
Tuitt
It is extremely important that second year guys like Wheaton, Thomas, JJ, and Brown show something this year.
The young talent we have at linebacker is quite impressive and it will be interesting to see if Spence can do enough to make a name for himself and make the team over guys like Jordan Zumwalt and Terrance Garvin (who I am a big fan of). _________________

Could not agree more with your statement on 2nd year guys. If Wheaton can come on strong and be a reliable number 2, if Jarvis can have 8-10 sacks, and Bell plays like he should, this draft could be a huge step for the future. And if Shazier and Tuitt turn out to be solid starters this year, we really hit the jackpot. Problem is.....alot of ifs. _________________

If I can't watch the game, somebody keep an eye out for Spence. He's the guy I really want a report on. |

Geez, JD, it's only preseason. It's not like a playoff game or something. Who cares about the final score? |

Hey announcers... You should be making commentary on who is making the tackles out there, etc... Not the amount of money a Giants player wants....
Sean Spence looking very good in back to back plays.. _________________

He's been doing that all camp. I'm very happy to say that, as of this point, he's made a lot of us look stupid for doubting him and some people look good for endorsing the pick. _________________ Mike Tomlin, January 17, 2017 on the avoiding the Patriots in previous playoffs:

Considering our usual red zone issues, would have liked to see that drive get capped off better. Really loved the play by Archer though. _________________

A fade to Lance Moore. Can't go wrong with that. _________________ Mike Tomlin, January 17, 2017 on the avoiding the Patriots in previous playoffs:
