The Atlanta Falcons drafted Peria Jerry with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Five years later, Jerry has decided to retire.

The team announced the decision on Thursday, which comes as a surprise because Jerry was coming off his best season. He started 14 games last year and recorded 3.5 sacks, both career highs.

The injuries just seemed to do him in. I thought he was going to work out really well for Atlanta, and help anchor the D-Line with Ray Edwards and John Abraham edge rushing. oh well

Yet another case of what if what if what if.

Injuries just destroy lineman, shame, he seemed like he was genuinely turning the corner before his body, apparently, has given out.

Never heard of him before. Best wishes to him in retirement though.

1) I had no idea he was 30 years old. It seems like just yesterday he was drafted.

2) I had no idea he was John Jerry (Former Dolphins, Current NYG OL) older brother.

Man 2009 doesn't seem that long ago but there's a ton of guys that I totally forgot about. Like where is Eric Wood now?

Eric Wood is still a Bill, bro..... in fact, he just recently got a 4-year extension.

Anyway, I did happen to know Peria was John's brother, being a Dolphins fan. I remember one game in particular where we were playing the Falcons (don't remember if it was preseason or regular season) the commentators were talking about how Peria and John were lined up against eachother, which was cool.

Unfortanutely, Peria never seemed to develop, most likely due to his injury. Wish him the best in retirement.

His age was one of the bigger knocks on him as a prospect.

His scouting report was the first time I read the "Jack of all trades, Master of none" line.
