Yea he sucked that game. The Cardinals as a team really sucked that game. Again, I don't see how it's overpaying if he would've got that same money elsewhere. I mean you really can't dispute that. If he hit FA he would absolutely get that money from another team.

I really like Patrick Peterson, but he has become extremely overrated.

He is a top 5 CB, but he isnt close to elite IMO. (And no, being top 5 at a position doesnt make you elite)

I understand overpaying players is a trend these days, but dear lord.

While the Cardinals did overpay, you're probably right. It's unfortunately the situation that they are in. Bengals are going to be paying AJ Green a lot of money in the near future and while I don't agree with paying any WR a ton of money, at the same time there's no way we can let AJ Green walk. It is what it is...

Overpaying will only get worse when the new TV money kicks in.

Yup. Which is one of the reasons I want the Bengals to get AJ Green's contract done asap. Contracts keep going up Sherman -> Hayden -> Patrick Peterson.

I can see the same run happening on the WR side with Dez, Julio, Demaryius and AJ Green all about to get new contracts...

Patrick Peterson is the first new-CBA first-rounder to get a second contract. Watt, Green, Newton, Quinn, Julio, etc. all paying attention.

This could get out of control...

Im PRAYING Chicago extends Jeffery before Green gets his contract. Your right, it's absolutely going to get out of control.

With Marshall over 30 already and the Bears still having Alshon under-contract for at least two more seasons (counting this one), I doubt that happens. More likely, they'll let the threat of the franchise tender hang over his head, use that as leverage to try and persuade him into signing an extension with a year remaining on the his deal that won't actually kick in with any massive salary number until after Marshall is cut-able (due to decline and age; 2016) or off-the-books (2018 - let's be realistic, the way the extension he received is designed, it looks like it's designed to have him off the books by or after 2016).

The money has to go somewhere, can't donate it all to charity.

We've seen a failed system in the past with huge rookie contracts. Fortunately that is over with. Should 60+ year old millionaire/billionaire owners get more money at the expense of the players? I am for proven veteran players getting what they deserve, not rookies or old business owners who already make a fortune.

You realize teams are likely not overpaying at all... It just looks like it. I'll bet in terms of percentage of the cap, its been steady for a long time. More cap space means more money throw around, but in a way the same commitment as less money 10 years ago.

A few things that haven't been bought up.

1 - In terms of the guarantees; Only $15M of it is in signing bonus.
2 - The only fully guaranteed money he gets is that bonus plus his 2014 salary.
3 - His salaries in the 2015/16/17 years fully guarantee during the waiver period. If; for some reason Arizona were to cut or trade him before that time the only guarantees that accelerate onto the cap are the signing bonus monies.
4 - At no stage during the contract does the cap hit exceed $14M and the highest cap hit is in 2015. It's not like this is some ridiculously back loaded contract that is going to sting the team in later years.

In terms of Patrick's on field play. It has left something to be desired at times. Especially when he players shiftier guys who are quick in and out of their cuts. But overall he does a heck of a lot for this team. Is he "worth" this deal, only the future will tell us that, but I don't mind it. Especially if the Cardinals can get rid of the money sucking, we're paying you for what you have done, not what you will do, contract of Darnell Dockett after the 2014 season.

If he can play like he did his rookie season then I will definitely respect this deal. I need to see him making more plays than he did last year. I want more return TDs as well. At least 2-3 for the year. He got paid like the best, and now is his year to prove it and end the debating with Sherman on Twitter.
