Random thought:

Has anyone heard a single thing about Troy during camp? He's coming off a below average season

utter horsecrap.

he was outstanding this season, aside from 2 or 3 games.

"Below average" for Troy, not below average in general

He didn't have a bad year but he wasn't your typical "Troy" if you ask me. You can place some of the pass coverage deficiencies on Taylor but I also think part of it is how frequently he lined up in the box compared to previous seasons.

He didn't engage in contact during training camp

That makes sense.

I think you are overlooking a couple of aspects that really show he had one of his best years in his career, overall.

- Started all 16 games (only his 5th season to do so)
- 1 INT returned for a TD (only his 3rd ever)
- 5 FF (highest total in his career)
- 2 Sacks (only 3rd season in career he's had multiple sacks in a season)

When you look at it from that aspect, opposed to the fact that he didn't have 7 INTs, then he truly did have a remarkable year. And remember, as a SS, last year's stats are more indicative of what he SHOULD produce, as opposed to his more FS-ish type of stats he's produced throughout his career. And one more point--he played "ILB" a lot last year, so he wasn't roaming deep as often as he normally does (not that he did a lot anyway).

So, when looking at it from that aspect, I would rate is performance last season as one of his top 5 seasons in his career--maybe top 3!

Great breakdown. I never had a concern with Troy other than if he has an injury. Now with a better cast around him at DE, LB and FS, this could be a year he really shines, maybe DPOY again Razz

Quote:
@ScottBrown_ESPN: Jarvis Jones having a good practice. Just batted down a Landry Jones pass.

Quote:
@ScottBrown_ESPN: Play of the day so far. Wheaton runs a go pattern down right sideline and catches perfectly thrown ball by Roethlisberger.

Quote:
@ScottBrown_ESPN: Daniel McCullers got a serious atta guy from DL coach John Mitchell after flowing down line and helping string out run.

@Alex_Kozora: Heyward-Bey burns Toler, drops nine route in the end zone. Welcome back, 85.

If you need help let me know. I can't stand to go through another season of bad punting and screwing our defense from the get go. I miss Josh Miller.

Every year some pompous slob talks up some scrub who is practice squad material. Every year, he's horribly wrong and no one ever calls him out on it. But, hey, if people want to listen to a guy who once said Polamalu was only the third best safety in his own division back in 2007...

Is there a source on Elkin being waived, though? I didn't see that reported anywhere.

Someone posted it (I think in this thread). FWIW: He couldn't have been worse than Hubbard. I heard good reports about Elkins but not Hubbard.

http://www.steelersdepot.com/2014/08/steelers-training-camp-practice-report-day-twelve-monday/

Looks like McCullers has moved up to 2nd team NT.

Ben, Wheaton, Howard Jones, Beachum, and Jarvis Jones all practiced well today.

If Howard Jones shows ANY promise, he needs to make the team over Chris Carter.

Chris Carter really has nothing to offer. At least keep someone that MIGHT.

Hubbard got his [inappropriate/removed] handed to him, he was really bad and I think a lot of the pressure he allowed was attributed to Adams by a lot of folks

I was reading good things about him in training camp. He is a local Youngstown State product.

Glad you could answer the question though instead of rambling on with a meaningless post.
