Quote:
(KFFL)Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger concentrated on strengthening his throwing arm in the offseason and said it is the strongest it has been in his career. He also worked with a personal trainer and nutritionist for the first time to keep his weight down and endurance up.

Quote:
Martavis Bryant broke inside as a pass sailed over his head during the Steelers’ first practice of training camp. “Don’t come in that way!” quarterback Ben Roethlisberger yelled Saturday afternoon to the rookie wide receiver. Roethlisberger proceeded to gesture to Bryant how he should have retraced his steps and run back toward the quarterback instead of cutting toward the middle of the field. No other sequence better epitomized how hands-on Roethlisberger was with a young receiving corps...

*Mitchell opened camp on the PUP list. Apparently injured his groin working out yesterday.

Not really training camp, but apparently, Shamarko Thomas trained with Polamalu and did his iso-kinetic training regiment. If Thomas doesnt succeed, it wont be from lack of effort. Dude has mad heart and work ethic.

Shazier was on the field half an hour before practice started.

Sad news...Cody Wallace was filling in for Ramon Foster, whose mother passed away.

Markus Wheaton started on the outside with Moore in the slot.

DHB was working with the camp bodies. Probably not much better than them. He was apparently giving advice to Martavius Bryant....oh god.

From Saturday:

Quote:
James C Wexell @jimwexell ·
Tuitt just fired off the ball like lightning. "THATS it" hollered Mitch with rare praise for the rookie.

Dri Archer pulling off his Faster Than Willie Parker routine today. On one, reversed field to go the distance.

Quote:
Alex Kozora @Alex_Kozora

Justin Brown is clearly ahead of Heyward-Bey. 85 with camp bodies.

Quote:

Remember Jeff Hartings? He is working as a coaching intern for the first part of training camp.

Quote:
There was plenty of talk over the past three months about the speed of rookie third-round pick Dri Archer. But the question was how the Steelers were going to best use Archer within the scheme of their offense. It didn't take long for them to figure that out. Early during Saturday's first practice of training camp, the Steelers lined up with four wide receivers and put Archer in the slot to the left. The defense had to counter by sliding out inside linebacker Vince Williams on Archer — an obvious mismatch. Rookie quarterback Brendon Kay didn't identify the advantageous matchup and threw the ball to the other side of the formation to tight end Eric Waters, but it was a quick glimpse of how the Steelers plan to use Archer's versatility and speed to their advantage. Archer was busy on the first day as he broke off a couple of long runs including one where he reversed field and was also taking first-team reps on the punt return team.

Was a big fan of the Justin Brown pick when we made it.

Really pulling for him. I like Moye, but Brown is much more naturally talented.

Tuitt, per ESPN, impressed the coaches this Spring. Stories like that always need to be taken with a huge grain of salt.

He could be one of the steals of the draft if they get the 2012 version. When he gets off the ball on time (has a tendency to be slow to react to the snap, or perhaps he just gets sluggish at times) he is explosive. He's also very strong, and has great hand usage.

At least, 2012 Tuitt did.

Bell and Bryant were both injured today. Both minor. Bell a hamstring and Bryant a groin. OL Snow broke his foot. Pads tomorrow.

Reports are that the first day of camp has been extremely physical. Kaboly stated he's never seen anything like it.

Timmons wailed Archer. Spaeth trucked an anonymous DB, Decastro pancaked McCullers.

And Shazier apparently had a few good showings in the backers on backers drills. Speed giving blockers issues.
