The Vikings are now members of the billion dollar club. At least that's the case if you believe Forbes' latest rankings of the 50 most valuable sports teams in the world. The Vikings have moved up one spot on the list from a year ago, graduating to No. 34, and are now worth $1.007 billion. In 2013, after the Vikings had gained approval for a new stadium that will open in 2016, Forbes put a value of $975 million on Zygi Wilf's franchise.

Of the 33 teams in front of the Vikings, 20 of them are NFL franchises. Twenty-two of the top 35 on the list are NFL teams and 30 of the 50 are from the league. Only the Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars failed to make the Forbes' rankings.

The top five teams in the world, according to Forbes, are soccer teams Real Madrid ($3.44 billion) , Barcelona ($3.2 billion) and Manchester United ($2.8 billion), followed by the New York Yankees ($2.5 billion) and the Dallas Cowboys ($2.3 billion). There are three other NFL teams in the top 10, including the New England Patriots (No. 8 at $1.8 billion), the Washington Redskins (No. 9 at $1.7 billion) and the New York Giants (No. 10 at $1.55 billion).

It shouldn't come as a huge surprise. It will only go higher once the stadium is actually completed. I wouldn't be surprised to see, once that happens, that the team will be valued at about 3 times what the Wilfs actually paid for the team initially, which would be about $1.8 Billion. It's good to be a Wilf.

The Vikings ranked 20th among the 32 NFL franchises in Forbes’ annual list of the league’s most valuable franchises. Forbes valued them at $1.15 billion.

The Vikings were third among their NFC North rivals. The Chicago Bears were eighth at $1.7 billion. The Green Bay Packers were 13th at $1.375 billion. And the Detroit Lions were 30th at $960 million.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Dallas Cowboys are worth the most of the league’s 32 franchises. At $3.2 billion, they are the first NFL team to be valued above $3 billion.

And they still won't win a Super Bowl I the next 2 decades.

There hasn't been a Super Bowl I in 47 years. Wink

Seriously, I agree with you on the Cowboys. Until Jerry Jones wakes up and realizes that he can't play GM like he plays with his other toys, or unfortunately has a health issue that forces him out of the position, the Cowboys won't get to another Super Bowl, let alone win one.

according to Forbes' valuation:

Vikings' growth from July 17 to now = $1.43 million
Cowboys' growth from July 17 to now = $900 million

Shocked

I think that pesky decimal moved on you... Wink

Still, $143 million compared to $900 million is a pretty huge gap...

I hate the Cowboys almost as much as I hate the Packers.

Agreed. For me they are GB 1A and Dallas 1B, mainly because of the pompousness of declaring themselves "America's Team"

Throw in the push off and Hershel Walker, and you have ample reasons for Dallas hate coming from Minnesota.

Walker being our own fault, but still a reason to hate.
