I sure hope so! Brent is still young enough to where after a full season he could get back up to speed and into playing shape. By start of the 2015 season he could be ready to make a push for the starting 1 tech spot. Brent was on his way to being a very good quality starter remember. I'm all for the move if it's a cheap signing. Low risk/ high reward.

As far as Kyle Orton goes good riddance neck beard! We don't need ya, we don't want ya!

So, you want a guy who killed his own teammate due to a DUI - a habitual problem that he's has since college - hasn't played in 2 years, is fat and totally out of shape, an average player when he did play, and knowing that he'll make zero contribution this season, on the hope that he'll be something decent a year from now? Why on Earth would we waste both the money and a roster spot on a guy like that?

R. Leary has also pleaded guilty this week to an earlier drunk driving charge. However, he has not killed anyone or spent time in prison. Just saying.

Guy killed himself by knowingly getting into a vehicle with a drunk driver

Josh Brent was just the mechanism - Brown could have just as easily hailed a cab for himself...

1)Blaming Jerry Brown is ridiculous. This is all on Josh Brent period!

2)Think its funny that Weeden is only a year younger than Kyle Orton.

3).11 million won't cover Dez's salary for the 1st year of his new contract, as he is going to be asking for 13-14 million a year with about 30 million guaranteed. In between what Mike Wallace and Larry Fitz are making per year.

1. It's not ridiculous - he was a grown man who was just as, if not more drunk, and voluntarily got into the vehicle with Josh. Both were at fault - and IMO the blame is equal

2. Actually that is funny

3. $11m will cover the first year's cap hit 99% of the time

But the extra room does give the Cowboys some more wiggle room in which to work on deals for Tyron Smith, Dez Bryant or both.

The Smith deal will be gigantic, given his age, ability and the desire to lock up the best young left tackle in the NFL. The Bryant deal will be big but not as gigantic.

And how does this support bringing Brent back onto the team again? It's not as if he didn't kill his teammate. Whether Brown was stupid enough to get into the car with Brent or not, Brent was still stupid enough to drive the car.

It is slow, so I don't really care, but there is talks that it is in the short term about the money for Smith & since Okoye is nearly back, that there was little sense in prolonging.

Not defending anyone, but wasn't Jerry not wearing a seat belt too? Also, driving drunk is driving drunk, so to say Ron is okay but Brent is not is poor. Just because Leary happened to be better at driving drunk than Brent and not get in an accident with someone not wearing a seat belt, doesn't make it better.

I think there may be a misunderstanding here. I was not saying Leary was a better drunk driver than Brent. On the contrary, I was pointing out that no one seems to have a problem keeping a guy on the team that ALSO has pleaded guilty to drunk driving. I also stated that he hasn't killed anyone yet just to nip that point in the bud. But I agree, drunk driving is a crime and a sign of carelessness and irresponsibility. And the fact that a former teammate, Josh-Brent, has already accidentally killed someone as a direct result of it, it seems all the more stupid that another team member put himself in that position.
