There goes the cap space we could have recouped if we waited for him to retire.

Not sure how else this could have been handled. He obviously didn't want to be in Dallas, but wasn't retiring either and leaving the $3m on the table.
Sucks from a cap standpoint, but glad they didn't sit and wait. Cut him (good riddance) and move on. _________________

Couldn't they just wait for camp to start and fine him for missing days? |

I suppose. Would have helped cap situation some. Still, cutting to the chance and dumping his arse is fine by me regardless the cap.
bwt...just seen this.

Id think #Cowboys will process this as a retirement or left squad deal to ensure he doesnt sign elsewhere |
So, maybe Dallas has something to hold over his head and recoup the $3m. _________________

If he plays for another team this year, we'll have to move this discussion to the bash Jerry thread. |

Nick Eatman is speculating that this move is to open a roster spot for Josh Brent. |

I sure hope so! Brent is still young enough to where after a full season he could get back up to speed and into playing shape. By start of the 2015 season he could be ready to make a push for the starting 1 tech spot. Brent was on his way to being a very good quality starter remember. I'm all for the move if it's a cheap signing. Low risk/ high reward.
As far as Kyle Orton goes good riddance neck beard! We don't need ya, we don't want ya! _________________ AMERICA'S TEAM and 5x SB CHAMPIONS = DALLAS COWBOYS!!!!!

Good riddance! I don't care about his measley 2.5 mil cap hit next year. If a player doesn't want to be here then so be it! I only want guys in my roster who want to come to work every day and make this team better. If he doesn't want to be a part of that, then I say don't let the door hit ya on the way out!! _________________ "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways" - John Wayne |

Yeah, it's more than leaving money on the table this year... it's actually paying back big money from the last 2 years due to his salary being restructured in signing bonus money. Honestly, the worst case scenario is that Orton shows up at camp and then pulls a Jay Ratliff. You know... "pull" a hamstring during the conditioning test and sit out the rest of the year while getting paid and not having to pay back any signing bonus.
If the money we save on him this year rolls over to next year's salary cap... I think it works out fine. |

We must be terrified that someone is gonna steal Brent from under our noses. Pathetic. |

In regards to your Brent comments, you can't really believe that ish, can you? The guy was nothing more than slightly above average. He hasn't played in a year and a half, there's no telling what his mental state is, he has a proven track record of blowing every single chance he's given and he is a immature, selfish imbecile. The team is better off flushing this turd, washing our hands, turning off the bathroom light and walking away. _________________
