I used to do a thread around this time of year posting thread items that were being discussed the year previous....however, since I changed jobs I lost the thread and didn't want to spend too much time searching for it again.

I'm going to mix it up a bit this time, and just go pick some of the most discussed threads from this forum in a random year. I'm going to go ahead and pick 2009...the Year of Favre and start by just posting some highly viewed/discussed threads from the first 4 months of that year. I will try to post some more either later this week or next from the mid 4 months of the year...and then, of course the final 4 months will be after that.

Please be advised, as always, do not post in those threads, but you may certainly comment about them here. I hope you enjoy!

Jayme...ironically for those that knew him...knew Freeman before we knew Freeman

Matt Cassell...the first go-around

Housh your daddy?

Cutler done in Denver?

Davaughnci and jd's Mock Draft

Brady in Purple?

Bold predictions for the 2009 Draft

I remember TJ Houzyamama's wikipedia page was changed to a Vikings theme because everybody was convinced he would be wearing purple.

Its fun reading through those old threads again lol

I've just started reading over more thoroughly the Cassel thread, and it's somewhat amusing that some of us are making the same statements we did 5 years ago....like milan saying that "Adrian Peterson is not exactly the prototypical WCO-style multi-purpose back who is a threat catching the ball out of the backfield." We still don't know if Adrian can do that and now they won't even be running the WCO-style offense.

And I believe I still agree with my points on Cassel 5 years later. I still don't view him as a legitimate starting QB...but, he's okay to get by until Bridgewater is ready. Laughing

Looking at old mock drafts is great.

It's also frightening at the amount of "sure fire" prospects that bust. Hard.

3. Kevin Barnes will start in the NFL in the next 3 years.

4. Jarret Dilliard is going to be a top 3 WR from this class.

5. Brian Orakpo will bust.

6. And most of important, Alphonso Smith is the best CB from this class and will be an elite NFL player.

It's also amusing to read that people would be upset with the Vikings taking Loadholt. Fortunately, they were wrong...and they could still grab him in the 2nd round (thus, not a first round lock). And AP, you didn't become a Lions' fan. I should rip you for backing out on your word. Laughing

Tim Tebow, Jevan Snead, Tim Hiller, and Colt McCoy were some of the names thrown around as "crushes" and "must draft" QBs Laughing

What's most funny is the guy that predicted that Snead would be a top-5 pick...Snead ended up not even making an Arena League team.

Not too long ago I read through some old threads. Have you ever gone back and read the Saints playoff game thread? I'd recommend not doing it. Luckily only another page back in forum history I found the Dallas playoff game thread which was a much more enjoyable read.

We might get to that Saints thread sometime, I don't know if it'll be this year or next...

I'm currently looking over that Tebow thread...I didn't recall having such a huge debate over the "heart" of a QB determining success and how Tebow's heart was going to will him to being a great QB.

And how prophetic these statements were in the last Favre thread...

the vikings need a game managing QB with that running game...a Chad Pennington type of QB...not somebody who throws the ball into traffic

It's ludicrous to think that he's going to do some Vulcan Mind Meld with Bevell and learn the playbook overnight. It's equally ridiculous to think that Favre is going to just parachute in after spending the offseason riding his tractor and look anything like the 27-year-old Favre who won the Super Bowl.

He signed only 11 days later than when he was traded last season after spending the entire offseason riding his tractor. And I certainly don't think he needs to have a Vulcan Mind Meld to understand this offense.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that some inside Vikings' the locker room still believe Tarvaris Jackson gives them their best chance to win.
This means little because the coaches call the shots and are committed to Brett Favre. It'll be even harder to go back on once Favre's $12M salary is guaranteed for being on the Week 1 roster.
