Browns quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains said in a radio interview Thursday that a text from Johnny Manziel during the draft helped inspire owner Jimmy Haslam to trade up for him.

"We're sitting there and they keep showing Johnny on T.V. and Johnny and I are texting and he shoots me a text and he says, 'I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.'

"When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach (Mike Pettine),'' Loggains said Thursday on Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly on Arkansas ESPN. "I'm like 'this guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.' As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, 'pull the trigger. We're trading up to go get this guy.'''

LOL.

That's hilarious that a text messaged convinced the Browns brass to bypass their "study" and just say, "EFF IT, WE'RE DOING IT".

hilarious.

Don't forget the homeless guy.

I wonder how Manziel really feels about having to go to Cleveland.

it's certainly not the advertising market that a larger, more metropolitan city would afford him. but maybe that doesn't matter if he's in with national companies anyway, like Nike.

I find it ironic that he did sign a deal with Nike, and is good friends with Lebron Jame and his associates. As Cleveland drafted him.

I think that Bridgewater, Garoppolo and Bortles will be good starters for their respective teams.

Carr, Manziel, Thomas and Mettenberger will bust hard. I loved Carr for MN but going to the black hole was the worst possible scenario for him. He will be playing way too soon.

The other qbs will be solid backups at best ie Matt Flynn, to journeyman.

I pop by Raiders forum now and then because my old man is a Raiders fan appearently Reggie has already said Carr will sit his entire rookie season barring injury so I think that'll improve his chances greatly because they can hopefully work out his footwork issues. I think with a little bit of coaching he'll be elite.

Bridewater landed in the best possible situation for him so there's no doubt in my mind he'll be elite 3-4 years down the line.

Borltes will be an average starter 20-25 range not sold.

Manziel will bust hard. Real hard.

Garroppolo won't amount to anything

I think Aaron Murray will be a good starter 10-14 range..

The plan may be to sit Carr, but once Schaub starts imploding, who steps in?

They do still have Matt Mcgloin who wasn't bad for an undrafted free agent. Would they go to him? i don't know but it's an option.

Manziel: Im a rookie, I need to earn my place. I need to earn my keep. I dont need to be treated based off what I did in the past because that doesnt mean a thing at this level. I was completely OK with hearing that from everybody. I dont want to come in and have anything handed to me that I dont deserve.

I got passed up 21 times, so that says something. Getting passed up 21 times is never fun and obviously some of those teams werent going to take quarterbacks and we knew that going into it, but still, its even humbling to be the second quarterback off the board, so for them to come in and say that, I dont think I need to be humbled. I realize where Im at in this organization and what I need to be doing, and thats all Im really focused on.

Manziel getting third reps behind Hoyer and Thigpen

The Browns apparently werent kidding, when it came to clamping down Johnny-mania. Much-anticipated rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel got to work with the rest of the roster today at Browns OTAs, but he had to wait to get that work in.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, veteran Brian Hoyer took the first reps in team drills. Then came veteran Tyler Thigpen, followed by Manziel.

De-program the kid.

The Oakland Raiders announced that they have agreed on a four-year contract with Derek Carr, who they selected in the second round of the draft earlier this month. With Carr under contract, the Raiders have signed five of their eight picks.

Carr: I feel great. Im excited. Im excited that this part of it is over and now we can just get to work and focus on winning games and getting better every day.

Browns GM Ray Farmer tells us Brian Hoyer is the better QB 'by a substantial margin' right now over Johnny Manziel.
