Quote:
Sources tell the Factor NFL player Adrian Peterson has been indicted by a Montgomery County Grand Jury. We’re told the charges stem from allegations Peterson, who plays for the Minnesota Vikings, beat his young son. Phil Grant with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says they can’t comment on the case until a suspect is in custody. However, Peterson’s attorney Rusty Hardin confirmed the indictment to FOX 26 but declined to comment. Grant says once he’s cleared to make a statement on the issue he will call me back. Once source says there are photos of the child’s injuries now in the possession of investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

I knew things were going just too well for the Vikings.

Wow. This is serious.

For you legal experts out there, why did they need a grand jury to indict? Can't a prosecutor just file charges?

Probably something from July or earlier.

There's nothing to really think of until the facts are known. No reason to jump to conclusions...unless, of course, there's a video of that too.

http://vikingsterritory.com/2014/uncategorized/2014-minnesota-vikings-adrian-peterson-indicted-for-child-injury

UPDATE: Per Jay Glazer, Peterson will cooperate with law enforcement and may not be available for the weekend.

UPDATE2: Isiah Carey reports an update on the Grand Jury proceedings. Evidently the Grand Jury “no billed” the Peterson case, meaning there was not enough evidence to indict. When the district attorney presented a second time, the panel accepted the criminal charge.

Further context: Adrian Peterson was inactive yesterday, but only as part of a veteran’s day of rest. He was seen at the beginning and end of practice. Today, he was in the building and was in Winter Park as of two hours ago.

UPDATE3: The Vikings are currently deciding on Peterson’s status for the weekend, per Jay Glazer.

UPDATE4: According to Ian Rapaport, the investigation has been going on for some time. Peterson testified to the Grand Jury weeks ago.

UPDATE5: And Ian also reports that the charges stem from Adrian disciplining his son with a switch.

I'm not a legal expert, but either the prosecutor doesn't know whether he has enough evidence to take it to trial or since AD is a celebrity, he wants an indictment rather than a simple filing of charges.

Unless there's something more significantly severe than that, it sounds just like a prosecutor trying to make a name for himself. I personally wouldn't do it to my child, but I know of people that have done that. So, unless there's something more harsh to it, it's a non-story. The simple act alone does not sound enough to be criminal in nature, but then again, we don't know anything at this point.

I'd guess that if they are indicting him, there is a statute that covers this. I would assume positive intent by the prosecutor, rather than assuming he's doing this for some nefarious reason.

Never been a fan of him as a person....and this is why I root for teams, and not individuals anymore. Too many instances of bad stuff happening.

Don't know how to post a link from my phone but there are reports that there are photos of his son with a busted up face.

I want this badly to not be true. Love AP but if he beat on a small child that's worse than what rice did
