Free agent K Jeff Reed wants to return to the NFL.
Reed hasn't kicked in a game since 2010 when he made 24-of-32 field goals in 14 games with the Steelers and 49ers. The longtime Steelers kicker is still just 35 and owns an 82.2 career success rate on field goals. He says he's spoken with ex-Steelers OC Ken Whisenhunt and the Titans about a potential workout. Someone the team may take a look at.

What that story neglects is that the Titans already said their not interested.

Quote:
Reed said heís spoken to Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was on the Steelers staff during some of Reedís tenure in Pittsburgh, about coming in for a workout although Reed says the coach was honest about the teamís desire to go with a younger option. Reed, who made 82.2 percent of his field goal tries over a 10-year career, could also be a possibility at some point down the road if a team grows dissatisfied with their current kickers.

I wouldn't say not interested..... Obviously Whiz is interested, just wants to give the younger guys a chance first. Would much rather have Bironas back anyway.

How is he obviously interested? Reed called and asked for a workout and was told they wanna go younger. It doesn't appear they're even interested in kicking the tires. He didn't ask for a contract he asked for a tryout and it seems they told him no.

They want a guy with a big leg (what Webster said on the radio). They thought Bironas was declining fast so a reunion with him is very unlikely and Jeff Reed has never had a huge leg so I do not see that. I think Maikon Bonani will be our starting kicker this year as scary as that is.

It was a little scary when we went with a big legged and unproven Bironas about a decade ago... and that turned out pretty great...

Yes, but if it were that easy, every team in the NFL would have a great kicker. I think this is a case of the exception, not the rule.

Kickers have gotten really good in the past decade or so... last year, 25 kickers were 80%+ on FGs (20 were 85%+)... only 3 were under 75%... Randy Bullock (7 of his 9 misses coming in 2 horrible games for him), Hartley (80% career), and Seabass (80% career).

85% kickers are the norm now... not the exception...

That's a good point. Kickers have improved as a whole. Idk..I'm just uneasy with what's on our roster at the moment.
