Kevin Norwood, WR, Alabama

6'2"
200 lb.
10" hands

Quote:
Strengths
Solid build. Good hands and concentration -- extends outside his frame and makes the difficult catch. Fine route savvy -- sells his routes with stems and nods. Understands how to get open. Good sideline awareness -- dots the "i." Established rapport with the quarterback is noticeable (is the first receiver sought on broken plays) and keeps working to come free. Very solid personal and football character. Trustworthy, accountable and dependable.
Weaknesses
Has short arms. Does not pop out of his breaks or create separation with burst and acceleration. Struggles some defeating the jam. Can show more urgency as a blocker in the run game. Breaks few tackles after the catch.
Draft Projection
Rounds 3-4
Bottom Line
Quicker-than-fast possession receiver with trusted hands a quarterback cherishes in critical situations. Could develop into a reliable, third-down option route runner. Is best with free releases in the slot.

Like it. Has great route running and gives 100% on plays. Two things I would require if I was a GM on later round WRs.

Norwood is good value pick. Looking at the roster though, do we have enough spots?

Percy
Baldin
Kearse
Rice
Lockette
Paul Richardson
Kevin Norwood
Matthews

That's 8. My guess is Lockette and Norwood battle for one spot

Both WRs we took were team captains.

Competition at all areas, and the WR is the area we need the most competition after last year.

Richardson will make the team. His speed, burst, and vert are just too much to demote to PS. I see Norwood beating out Lockette frankly. Rice might flat out be released again.

Rice/Harvin/Baldwin/Richardson/Kearse/Matthews

That's the 6 I see us going in with. Lockette and Norwood get PS.

10 inch hands. Over 10 ft broad jump. Ran in the mid 4.4s. Makes great contested catches. Me gusta.

He's just solid everywhere. Not a guy I ever see developing into a #1 or #2, but he'll be a very reliable rotational option. Great run blocker and great football IQ.

I mocked this guy to Seattle a month ago. He does remind me of Harper though and now we have a ton of talent at WR he'll have to bring it make this team. Like the size though

He's much more refined than Harper coming out. Harper was not a good route runner and struggled with the nuances to gain separation. Norwood is a plug and play type of guy. His game transfers over very well.

Norwood: "My one weakness, maybe and it's not really a weakness for me, is getting off the line against press."

He's going to hate practice.

I don't know if he is going to be a PS guy. During the press conference it seemed like Pete and John couldn't stop gushing over how great he is, and how he is a complete player. But time will only tell.

I'm with you. It wouldn't surprise me if Norwood had a bigger impact this year as a WR than PRich
