I'd like to see us hold off on Bridgewater until at least week 6, even if we think he's ready before then.

Road games @ St. Louis, @ New Orleans, and @ GB (on primetime and on a short week) would be rough on any QB.. Those are some hostile environments, and teams that get after the QB. Dunno if we wanna throw a rookie into that.

Plus we hit a soft spot in the schedule after that week 5 GB game.

I can definitely agree with that. I have no problem with Matt Cassel starting the season. He does some pretty good things. But either way I am down with Bridgewater winning Rookie of the year as well.

If Bridgewater does not win the job outright during camp, I would say he wouldn't start until Week 15 (after they've been officially eliminated from playoff contention). Week 15 is a good place to start because they're on the road in Detroit (dome) and then at Miami (warm weather) and then finish up at home against Chicago. The only other feasible time I could see him starting is Week 7 at Buffalo (since it's still October).

I personally believe it'd be significantly safer to start him on the road or against a non-division opponent than to start him at home. Let him ease into it.

I'm going to the Packers game at TCF, so he needs to start for that game, hopefully a few weeks before.

other than playing at TCF would feel a lot like a college game for him, surroundings-wise.

and in learning about Teddy, comfort level is very important to him.

NFL.com analyst predicts Bridgewater will be starting day 1.

Since Zimmer has said it'll be an open competition, that's my guess too.

Everything that I have read so far from Spielman and Zimmer points to Bridgewater starting. They both state that the best QB will be the starter, and that they hope/(expect) Teddy to be that guy.

Much different from the Frazier days where under-performing vets were locked in starters.

didn't Dalton start in his rookie year in Cincy? i know that wouldn't have been Zimmer's decision at the time, but does show he's witnessed a rookie QB start without ill effect.

and given the top two traits the Vikings keep trumping up on Bridgewater is his ability to handle pressure and be an intelligent and observant student, then yes, it could be very likely.

Only problem is: his first start would be @St Louis, against that pass rush...

We'll find out in a hurry how good he is under pressure.

Good thing he's great against the blitz! Or we might be seeing some of this...

Zimmer: "I'm all about competition. I want the best guys to play, the guys that can do the best job. I understand there is a fine line with young quarterbacks of getting them beat up and those things but we have a very good offensive line here and we have, in my opinion, two good quarterbacks. I was watching them throw today and they were throwing the heck out of the ball today. I told them today, 'Norv and Scott are doing a great job of coaching these guys.' Teddy will play when we feel like he’s ready if he’s the best guy, which we hope that he will. We always want to have competition in our football team at every position. The more good football players we can get, the better off we are as a team."

Notice how he says only two good quarterbacks? Someone must not think too much of Ponder. Laughing

I would give the starter's job to Matt Cassel just to get the offence up to speed with the new scheme that Norv is trying to install.

Also, the first five games on the 2014 schedule are:

@Rams
Patriots
@Saints
Falcons
@Packers

Send a rookie QB out there and you could easily be 0-5 to start the season.

Eh?
