Reports say the team is firmly committed to Schaub this year and it would "take something catastrophic" to see Carr starting games this season. I wouldn't mind it too much if he was even third string behind McGloin for a year. If someone needs to get their head kicked in, then let it be McGloin, the guy with the lower ceiling.

Agreed, don't feed Carr to the wolves. I don't think he should see the field this year but if Schaub is doing horrible and our win total is miserable, then I don't have a problem starting Carr the final two weeks or so.

People are just not giving Carr the credit he's do.
Fifth-year senior check.
Reads defenses check.
Audibles offense at line check.
Great arm check.
Hard worker check.
NFL bloodlines check.
What more do people want in a second round draft pick?

Do I have to remind people that most junior QBs that come into the NFL fail.

I have been saying this for some time staff really likes McGloin, anything can happen, but Carr would really have to shine to beat out Schaub and McGloin.
matt "catastrophic" schuab ? Lol
Yeah he's pretty much been catastrophic his whole career. Rolling Eyes
hence the ?. The staff really liked matt 1.0 also fwiw...

2 Pro bowl seasons >>> 2 good games.
Andre Johnson Arian foster factor?

The best WR corps in the league a factor?
matt 3.0 got 700+ yrd in that magical 2012 pro bowl season by playing jax twice.

I've never been a fan of Schaub but he clearly has shown a lot more than Flynn ever did. Imo, he benefited a lot from the Texans effective running scheme who allowed him to find open targets off of PA. He was never an extremely talented QB and i've seen him crumble under pressure more than once. He needs a very solid supporting cast to be effective. He's just here to allow this team to grow and possibly buy the coaching staff some time. If we can get the running game on track and improve the D, he could be serviceable for this year. We didn't have a ton of options either.
If we didn't have him around and had to start Carr against the NFC West, it could shot his confidence forever. Those teams are gonna make QB's life miserable.
I just think he is overrated and I'd rather start mvm and have Carr as #2 fwiw.

Juniors coming out always scare me.
I really like that our guy was a senior.

one more question:

any chance David Carr is signed to the team as a backup/mentor to his brother?

From early reports, he did seem to have some interest in that.

Yep, in the 4th or 5th round. That's not a bad place to take a flyer on a QB. I don't see the big deal.

Not likely, it will be Schaub, McGloin, Carr.

Carr has that it factor. Golden Arm, leader, makes people better, clutch, no one works harder, mature, true student of the game, good feel in pocket, athletic, smart, nimble.... Best qb we had in silver in black since Rich Gannon. These past few years there been something in the air with Carr here

I'm glad Shaub gives the Raiders the opportunity they don't have to force Carr to start right away.

Reggie was in Green Bay when Rodgers sit behind Farve for what 2-3 years.

I see Carr either starting before this season is over or next year depends on allot of things.
