Who will the Broncos target for their first round pick at #31?

A list of possible 1st-round draft picks:
- CJ Mosley, ILB, Alabama
- Xavier Sua-Filo, OL, UCLA
- Ryan Shazier, ILB, Ohio State
- Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State
- David Yankey, OG, Stanford
- Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

Green Bay (21st pick) looks like a possibility for Mosley but he might be dropping (or the Packers might prefer to take a DE) and Mosley could still be available at #31.

Shazier has been mocked to Cleveland (#26) but that team might trade that pick or take an OG/CB/WR/etc. So Shazier might last until #31.

Sua-Filo has appeared in mocks as high as 10 picks before Denver's spot. Will Miami take a guard? KC might take him after losing O-linemen in free agency.

While Denver might trade down, with a month to go before the draft the team will start bringing potential picks in for a visit. The visits will give a clue about the Broncos' thinking. Unless they are playing games with false signals...

My guess is that Elway has a "big board" of ranked players and will take the top-ranked player in the 1st round rather than picking for a needed position.

This team is built so well that Denver could go in nearly any direction. Which is of course nice because you can focus on taking the best player available instead of trying to fill immediate needs.

More so than any position, i really feel that Denver will try and address CB early if the right player is available.

I think there is an obvious need at MLB. Who is the MLB right now? Steve Johnson?

My short list, barring a top 10 level prospect to slide(such as what happened with Sharrif Floyd going 23) includes:

Xavier Su'a-Filo
Ryan Shazier
CJ Mosley
Kony Ealy
Kyle Fuller
Brandin Cooks
Kelvin Benjamin
Odell Beckham Jr
Marquise Lee

I don't disagree with this either. I would also love to see Denver find a good long term player at the position. It seems MLB has been a revolving door for a lot of years in Denver. Basically since Al Wilson left.

I think the guys in play at every position are:

OG- Xavier Su'a Filo, Zack Martin

C- Weston Richburg

WR- Jordan Matthews, Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham Jr.

CB- Jason Verrett, Kyle Fuller, Bradley Roby

DE- Kony Ealy

DT- Ra'Shede Hageman, Stephon Tuitt, Timmy Jernigan

LB- Ryan Shazier, Kyle Van Noy, CJ Mosley

S- Jimmie Ward, Lamarcus Joyner

If teams pick on need, the picks before Denver is on the clock:
30. San Francisco 49ers -- a WR?
29. New England Patriots -- a QB? (Brady is 37)
28. Carolina Panthers -- a WR?
27. New Orleans Saints -- a WR?
26. Cleveland Browns -- a QB (if they took a defensive player earlier)
25. San Diego Chargers -- DB or OL
24. Cincinnati Bengals -- DB?
23. Kansas City Chiefs -- WR or OL
22. Philadelphia Eagles -- DB or WR?
21. Green Bay Packers -- TE/LB/DB/DE? (the least predictable spot, the team usually picks BPA)
20. Arizona Cardinals LB? (they lost Dansby)

If teams go on need, then the dozen picks before Denver will be heavy on WRs and DBs. That would let Denver grab a player that slips past those teams.

This is certainly an interesting way to look at it. While I'm sure it won't fall exactly like that, the trends of needing WR's and DB's should hopefully let some early to mid round prospect to fall right into our laps.

I could be wrong, but i would add some of those undersized 3/4 pass rushing prospects to that list as well. Dee Ford and Jeremiah Attaochu i don't consider off limits either. Denver's already running a lot of hybrid looks and if they really liked for example, a guy like Attaochu i don't think they'd hesitate to draft him.

I would agree with this. For edge rushers scheme for wont matter. Towards the end of the year we were showing a lot of 3-4. With the addition of DeMarcus Ware, and the schematic versatility of our DT's (Sly, Vickerson, Wolfe all have the stout base and quick feet to be great in a 5-Tech) I dont think scheme will matter when evaluating pass rushers for Elway, Fox, JDR.

I guess I wouldn't be surprised if that happened either. Hell, Borland should probably be on the list above as well.

You two are exactly right.

And that's what I love about this regime, from Elway on down. We have the right people in the Front Office and the right people on the coaching staff who, give them the best 53 football players you can get your hands on, and they'll assemble a winning formula. Serious, the contrast between this regime and previous two could not be more stark.

This is why I haven't been terribly active in draft and prospect talk; I really have no clue what we're going to do. Making a mock draft or even a list of names seems futile - we have no idea who will be on the clock when we pick and even less of an idea what Elway & Co. will do.

I really hope we go with Shazier. He's bulked up since the season ended, and I think he will be a day 1 impact starter.

If we get Shazier (which i am not opposed to) it needs to be as a nickle LB. He has the same problem when taking on blocks that Irving has. He does not stand his opponent up and have the ability to disengage to either side, so he cheats to one side. Perfectly fine for an OLB. Disastrous for a Mike.

A combination of Shazier in the 1st and Max Bullough in the 5th would be fine with me.

The moment you realize the draft it still a month away...ugh...

I really want to see an inside linebacker that can be a leader. That's just me though
