That's a lot of money, but I'm glad he re-signed. One less giant hole to fill through the draft, though I'd still like an OL in the first 3 rounds.

EDIT: I thought 6.85m was a lot, but now it's a max of over 8? No, I'm not liking this as much now.

He's not seeing the 2nd year of the deal unless he's very good this year so I don't see why people are worried about the terms of the deal. Seems pretty affordable for this year

Good move if the deal is back loaded with most of the money coming next season. Still hope we get someone in the draft

Can't see the reasoning behind this, unless they just couldn't abide going into the draft with no veteran center outside of Connolly on the roster.

So we aren't going to improve our OLine?

That's disappointing.

There weren't any realistic upgrades in free agency so I don't think this deal changes anything.

I always thought Belichick (and Brady) valued chemistry at the Center position the most, so even after those fumbled snaps and weird blocking schemes fail last season, I'm surprised they brought him back. They'll probably keep Wendell and Connolly for another season or two and draft someone high to groom. It's what they seem to like doing...

Meh, looks like this a bonus heavy deal.

Hey ESPN are reporting that the total deal could actually be to a maximum value of 4.55m. Which is more realistic. How likely that this is the case?

Thank god!! NFLPA numbers were inaccurate. Here's the actual contract:

Quote:
Overall terms: Two years, base value of $3.25 million, maximum value of $4.55 million ($850,000 guaranteed in a signing bonus)

2014
Base salary: $1 million
Roster bonus: $200,000

NFLPA inflated the contract? Go figure. I like these numbers a lot more. Very team friendly. I've been thinking with the draft, the Pats could either draft a C to groom and/or compete for a starting spot yr 1, or draft a G and move Connolly inside to C, where he'd be better than Wendell. Or maybe Cannon is ready to be a starter in the interior, but top backup for tackle. He wasn't atrocious last year at RT, and I'd like to get him more involved.

Those updated cap hits make this deal very good. As bad as Wendell was at times last year, he's worth more than $1.6m. Nice contract.
