According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Eagles are seeking a third-round pick for LG Evan Mathis

If true, he'd get 5M in 2014 and is under contract for a few more years.

I pass. Dude will be 33 and it will cost a 3rd rounder. I'd rather draft a young talented player with that pick.

I dont know anything about the guy, but if hes still playing at a high level i'd trade a 4th or 5th certainly not a 3rd. He'd be familiar with the type of system we are gonna run and patch up OG for a few years, and thats not something u can normally get in the later rounds of the draft.

A 6th rounder is what I would give for Mathis. I like the player and the position, but his salary doesn't make him a bargain and neither does his age.

He is one of the best guards in the NFL and would fit perfectly in Miami, given that he already has worked with Bill Lazor. Saying that, he is already 33 and a 3rd round is a little rich for my taste, if it could be done for a 5th, Id probably pull the trigger, and I would at least consider a 4th.

Maybe a 5th or 6th? Only because he fits our system so well. Otherwise, I'd rather sign Travell Wharton who is the same age and almost as good for less money and no draft pick compensation.

But I must admit I am scared. Miami needs the line help and the O-coord is from Philly. I am a little concerned.

Concerned at the possibility of this deal getting done ....?

or

Concerned were possibly gonna have 2 rookies starting ...?

I'm thinkin we can pay 2 rookies 5 - 6 Mill/yr ... (or close) Still a gamble.
Anybody thinkin we may trade C. Wake to use as draft ammo ???
We'd start Olivier Vernon on the Left & D. Jordan on the right ...

I think we're tempted for sure.

There's a 95% chance that Evan Mathis would be better than anyone we'd get in the 3rd round, at least this year and next year. If it means Tannehill will get sacked/hit 10 less times compared with a rookie at that spot, I think it'd be a good signing. If he was making 2-3M a year, it's WAY more palatable.

So far, Hickey's been pretty smart about not taking large, unnecessary risks. I'm assuming that'll continue.

That said, if it's a late round pick and a front-loaded contract that allows us to cut him potentially after this season, I wouldn't mind the trade.
