While not injecting much youth, this will certainly help on the field next year. Interested to see numbers here.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

Jared Allenís contract: 4 years at $32M that voids to 3 for $24M. $15.5M is fully guaranteed, per source.

Another under the radar signing that no one hears about until Emery wants people to hear it. I love this guy.

I really like what this gives us on the line. You need 3 DEs in the NFL with the amount of rotating that is done.

2013

Peppers
McClellin
Wootton

2014

Allen
Houston
Young

That is a significantly better rotation.

Imagine 3rd down staring at

RE: Allen
DT: Houston
NT: Donald
LE: Young

@adbrandt: Allen to receive $32M over four years, with $15.5M guaranteed, per @MikeGarafolo. Translation: contract is 2 years, $15.5 million.

Championship Dancing

In all seriousness this is a good signing when you consider it's basically only a 2-year $15.5 million pact. I had a feeling the Bears were after Allen's services even though it didn't seem like it with nothing being reported of their interest in him, but that's just the way Emery likes to operates...under the radar.

My question now is does this mean Houston slides inside to DT as an every down player with Allen and Young being the base ends?... or will one of these two be a situational pass rusher as part of a rotation with Houston playing DE on the majority of snaps and kicking into DT on obvious passing downs?

I did not expect that. I mean, sure, I hoped. But...wow, Phil Emery.

just want to say congratulations on signing an exciting and fun player.

to a man in the Vikings forum, we all are wishing him the best *14 games a year* , and no one is being petty and calling him a traitor or anything.

go get 'em, Jared!

My guess is that what is available to us in the draft is probably going to dictate that. My guess would be that they probably take a DT somewhere in rounds 2-4 and a high upside pass rusher DE late, but I don't think either position is going to be looked at in the first round now, and yes I mean that I think that Aaron Donald is probably off our radar right now. We have added 3 new starting caliber DL plus retained Ratliff who can start, kept Collins who is a depth guy and brought back another depth guy in Idonije. Meanwhile, our equally bad and much older secondary has been bolstered only by adding Ryan Mundy and MD Jennings, and Tillman and Hayden are on the wrong side of 30 and on one year deals. I think at this point we are going BPA at DB early, and probably two of our first 3 picks. Ideally that means a trade down with us having 3 picks in the top 64. Our more immediate need is at S though (don't need a starting corner until next season) so I think we are looking at Clinton-Dix or Pryor now. My opinion. Others will surely disagree. Cool

Also, I love the signing. Dancing
