IMO we need a LG that can do what Beadles did in terms of mobility but has a stronger anchor, and simply keep Franklin at RT.

This is exactly whim excited to see what Garland can do in camp this year. Last year in the couple of amp practices I got to go to it was obvious garland had the lightest feet of all the OL not named Clady. In the one 1on1 drill I saw him in (matched up against sly) he anchored very well. His problem was in technique. It was horrible. But he worked with Gibbs every day after practice last year to improve it. I have a gut feeling he could be this years Duke Ihenacho.

We're pretty much on the same page here. He's got all the tools, mentally and physically. Extremely athletic for a man his size.

He just could be our "sleeper of the year". Just gotta' wait and see.

After signing Winston Justice, the Broncos now have 12 OL on the roster.
OT: (6) Ryan Clady, Orlando Franklin, Chris Clark, Winston Justice, Vinston Painter, Ramon Harewood
G: (4) Louis Vasquez, Ryan Miller, Ben Garland, Sione Fua
C: (2) Manny Ramirez, Dan Koppen

Koppen is likely gone. Garland and Fua are new to their position. So there is a strong need for more oline help. I'd bet that 3-4 more OL players will be brought in by training camp. Probably at least one via the draft and the Broncos front office will be checking the waiver list for a center or guard with experience.

Dan Koppen is a FA right now.
Sione Fua signed with the Broncos as a DT to replace Vickerson on the roster.

The team has Fua listed as an DT.

But the league has him as an OG.

I don't know if Fua will continue as a OG or will flip back to the D-line.

The Panthers moved him to the offensive side of the ball but I'm pretty sure the Broncos only used him as a DT.

As to the bolded; that would be an assumption on your part. it may be true, but at this point our FO has done nothing to address it. Both Beadles and Kuper are gone but we've done nothing to replace them in FA. That gives me pause. Why?

It's simple. Both Painter and Garland have immense physical gifts, size , speed, strength and athleticism. Both were also incredibly poor technicians. Enter Alex Gibbs, one of the best teachers of OL technique in the NFL (maybe ever). Both of these fella's spent a year under both Gibbs and Maguzo with a lot of one on one with Gibbs.

Nothing either of these two does this year will surprise me. I'm guessing the FO feels about the same.

Will they succeed? I haven't got a clue. Just really interested to see how that plays out.

We'll get a better take through late FA and the draft. Just have to wait.

Didn't they move Painter to the active roster before the Patriots game last year so SF didn't get him? That could have been a sign on how much he is progressing if they did.

That will be an interesting question for training camp. Rumors are that the Broncos have assigned him Robert Ayers's jersey number, #91, so it sounds like the team has penciled him in as a DT/DE but that can change.

Fua was solely a DT in Denver. I'd imagine he and Mitch Unrein are fighting over one DT roster spot. Vickerson and Knighton are the starters and Sly is the first man off the bench.

Ideally Sly is the starter. He came on strong to close the season. IMO Big Vick is better suited for the third guy.

It's a fool's errand to think of anyone on the d-line as a "starter" and as a "backup" because JDR uses so many different line combinations and mixes and matches with such frequency, playing time evens out over the course of the season.

It's not a fool's errand. The best players get the most snaps. I think Williams should be one of those guy. It isn't "foolish" to want a first round pick step it up in his second year. After his finish to last season it is a logical argument to make.
