Per Mike Chappel of the Indy Star:

#colts signed Phil Costa to 2-year deal. Detroit, Cincy also had an interest.

Costa is 6'3, 302 lb 26 year old Center. Started 16 games in 2011, but only started 3 games in 6 appearances over the past 2 seasons.

Grigson's statement on Costa per Chappell:

Quote:
Phil is a young, hard-nosed and physical center who has shown he can play at a winning level in our league. He will provide strong competition at the center position.

Seems more like an insurance signing if they can't get Mack. I don't expect this to be more than $2-3 Million per year. Could also mean they plan on drafting a center as well.

Im ok with it. Would rather have Mack, EDS, BLP? but Costa is at least serviceable

Competition is good

Mack isnt too realistic of an option, although it could happen.

Now we can have Costa, Holmes, (draft pick, maybe) battle it out

will only make them all better.

Colts are apparently sniffing pretty hard at Mack. Stephen Holder got an interview with Mack who hinted that he would consider it a win to be playing in Indy.

But I agree, even if it's not Mack, it's a decent signing that can't be any worse than Satele was. He just never fit the scheme.

Came even cheaper than I expected:

#colts signed Phil Costa to 2-year, $2.7 mill contract. Can go to $3.5 mill if he hits play-time incentives.

At that price, a very solid signing.

Decent signing for the Colts. Anything to help prevent Luck from being sacked is alright.
