I guess this guy knows wiz offense. But he's a bum. This guy isn't even backup quality.

I'm pretty disappointed so far in this FA. Didn't expect to break the bank again, but we haven't really addressed any needs in my opinion. Didn't think 4th wr was a priority, or downgrading our backup QB.

I'm wondering who's going to rush the passer next year? Greene is not a starting rb. And we still have no middle linebackers. I guess ill chaulk it up to a transition year for our new staff. If locker misses any time were looking at the #1 pick.

Been in the season 8 years and I don't think he's thrown more then 200 passes or so total.

The preseason wonder.

I get the signing, familiarity with the system. But let's be honest, QB isn't Whiz's best asset. Look what happened in Arizona with the 5 or 6 QB's they had start a few seasons back.

Me personally, if we were going to make a move for a 2nd string QB and we were letting Fitzmagic go, the guy I would have targeted would have been Jason Campbell. But hey, that's just me.

Good.

Hopefully he never steps foot on the field.

But if he does then we should have no problem getting a top 5 pick which we will need for a new QB. Because this is it for Locker. We need a QB that can play 16 games and hopefully more...

That's pretty much the way we have to look at it. If this guy has to step on the field for a long period of time we're dead in the water and will be looking for a new QB next year. Hopefully all he'll ever have to be is a valuable resource for Jake when it comes to learning Whisenhunt's system and nothing more.

If that's correct, he'll probably count about 1.5M on the cap this year...

1M SB (guaranteed)
1M salary in '14 (guaranteed)
2M salary in '15
2M incentives in 14 (to be counted on '15 cap if reached)
2M incentives in 15 (to be counted on '16 cap if reached)

If it ends up being a 1 year deal, he gets 2M total, 1.5M cap hit this year and would carry only a 0.5M dead hit next year...

I don't like the signing, but that 2yr 8M deal is not to be believed. Actual numbers aren't as bad.

Looks like you're right

@glennonsports

Looks like Whitehurst will only count $1.5 against cap next yr, so #Titans save $1.75 million with the switch from Fitz to Whitehurst.

From Profootballfocus.com:

Charlie Whitehurst (QB) to Titans: 2-year, $4m with $2m guaranteed

There cant be many players to have earned as much money as Whitehurst by consistently getting paid solely to carry a clipboard. He has had his chances to play and shown repeatedly that he isnt even capable of keeping the ship off the iceberg for a couple of games while the starter recovers. At this point hes being signed purely as a meeting room presence. And possibly for his beard.

The main difference I see between Fitz and Whitehurst is that Whitehurst hasn't had as many chances to fail as Fitz has.

also, one thing I hated about Fitz is that he usually needed a high number of attempts to get into rhythm when he was QB. I felt that there were times where he threw more passes in a game, than Locker would have, if healthy. Fitz doesn't fit the system Whiz wants to run. Whitehurst not only fits it, but is familiar with it.

Not saying its a good move or bad, but I don't think its as dramatic a leap in talent as people would perceive it to be. Fitzpatrick sucked.

Hate the signing. He is a downgrade to Fitz.

Fitz sucked when it mattered. No reason we shouldn't have went to the playoffs last year. I mean my god. The AFC was a LOL FEST.

He had so much talent around him.

08 KFC would have looked like Brady if he had played this past year. Laughing

Glad hes gone. Not happy with his replacement. But glad hes gone.
