Wish I could say I didn't see this coming, but its obvious he did not wanna restructure. Just hope we can get some help up front. This is all per Ian Rapoport

Clear the Patriots demand he takes a pay cut and very likely does not want to extend him.

Sensibly he'd rather get cut and take a longer term contract elsewhere.

Love the guy, wish him the best.

Do it now get rid of him. Old, injuries and fat. Use his money on someone that will have a impact. Jared Allen, Steve Smith Jason Tuck. Yes Smith I don't care if he a hot head.

Vince will be shocked with what is offered elsewhere.

Sad to see Wilfork go. Really love the guy. I do understand if it has to happen though. Pats need to do what it takes to win, Wilfork needs to look out for his own interests. And unfortunately paying the kind of money he's owed for an encore of the Wilfork we got in the first 2 weeks of 2013 is really untenable. Wish him all the best as long as he doesn't go to a rival.

He's not worth the money he's owed, and if he's not willing to talk about a reasonable restructure, this is the only move. He's clearly trying to use the public backlash to this news as leverage, pretty underhanded move on his part. I don't think there's gonna be much of a market for him tbh, coming off Achilles and he didn't look great last season even before the injury.

Not surprising. It's the nature of the business.

Not for me. I'm happy he took this stance it make it easy to release him. None of the sentimental crap. If you had a choice Jared Allen or Vince, Allen win in a landslide.

Eh. I can't say I feel all so bad about it. He's expensive. Having a guy who is useful for 50% of the teams snaps making that kind of money is a hard pill to swallow.

I guess you could make the case that even if he provides nothing as a rusher, he is a deterrent against the 3rd down draw. But after seeing how much he struggled in 2013, is the value he brings against the run going to get back to the level where it justified that kind of investment?

Wilfork was a great character, and fun to root for, but at the end of the day the team's got to do what's best for the team.

Yes but if he comes back to NE for the last year, and struggles like he did vs. Buffalo and in that first Jets game? He's hitting FA in a year a year older, and high and dry. I can see why he'd want to get a multi-year deal now and not later.
