Interesting. Or defensive line is all of a sudden pretty deep, especially after w add another pass-rusher in May.

Well, it seems pretty apparent the team knew exactly what they wanted to address in free agency. Bryant, Hood, Clemons so far. I wonder if they try to find another 1T via FA or perhaps in the draft.

Wanted two starters in the trenches, we got two starters and a good rotational guy. I'm happy with this.

I don't think either defender will start - neither is a nose tackle.

Confused

Bryant at 5T and Clemons at LEO...unless you're being sarcastic.

Anyways, anyone know if Ziggy can play Miller's role at all? I'd imagine he'd fit in at 3T behind Marks for sure, and I bet he'll play some 5T...

Bryant was before the Free Agency period, when I originally said I wanted two. I was talking about Hood, Clemons and Beadles.

Ah alright. Regardless, his post I disagree with. Clemons should start at LEO, and Beadles is obviously our LG. Hood might not start but I expect plenty of snaps for him.

so the skinny on Ziggy Hood

1. Insane work ethic. You will have a hard time finding a "non genetic mutant freak" big guy with better conditioning. He was known as the hardest worker on the Steelers, and the king of the weight room.

2. Relentless motor. He's the type of DL that will pursue a guy from one side of the field to the other, downfield, and make the tackle from behind on the guy 20 yards downfield because he followed him the entire time and never let up

3. NOT A 5-TECHNIQUE. That is a failure on the Steelers' FO and coaching staff for drafting him to play a position for which he was completely ill-suited.

4. Awareness and film study are apparently top notch. He does a good job getting his hands into passing lanes and times batted passes fairly well for a stocky dude. He sniffs out screens pretty well and can be disruptive in ways you wouldn't expect.

check his combine #s and compare to guys like Ndamukong Suh, Geno Atkins, etc. he is and always has been, a 3-technique.

I don't know if his game has been ruined by the Steelers' myopic, dogmatic defensive line coach or not. However, if it hasn't, don't be surprised if he beats out Sen'derrick Marks. When allowed to actually get upfield against OGs where he isn't copmletely outclasses by length, he is a pretty darn good player.

I always wanted Ziggy to do well. impossible not to root for him, but old folks get set in their ways and LeBeau and Mitchell (Steelers' DL coach) simply would not work with Ziggy. they tried to force him to be Aaron Smith (who was 3" taller with arms down to his knees)

Good to hear. I certainly feel good about the guy.

As for the bolded, I highly doubt it. Sen'Derrick Marks was very, very good last year.
