I know you can argue about who ranks with who, and who is 'better', but I maintain the WR rosters are closer than you suggest..........

The Bengals and Browns WR corps aren't currently in the same zip code. If the Bengals decide not to match Hawkins and Cleveland takes Watkins in the 1st round, then that obviously changes everything. But as of this moment, they're not close.

The bottom four guys on the depth chart for each team don't matter, as they hardly ever see the field. Little is a horrible WR, as any Cleveland fan will tell you. Travis Benjamin has 23 catches over the last two seasons. Honestly, the two teams current depth isn't even remotely comparable.

Even in your analysis you put Jones vs a question mark.

@RapSheet: #Bengals WR Andrew Hawkins signed his offer sheet with #Browns and wow. Big commitment. It pays him $10.8M over first 2 years. $13.6M over 4

Your move Wink

I still think the Bengals should have put a higher tender on Hawkins. That being said, I wouldn't match. Their top 3 is still very good and they can always look to add someone in the draft.

Hawkins is an explosive player who can make things happen in space, but it's hard to see him getting more than 40 catches per season given our WR depth. Seems like a high price to pay for a guy who will catch 30-40 balls per season and isn't a returner.

Agree. I'd wait a week to keep Cleveland on edge, then not match. During that week, try to get Sanzenbacher re-signed.

Apparently the Browns redid there offer making it harder for us to match. Now it appears unlikely we will

I don't know for sure, but if he had accepted an offer, how can they go back and change it to make it more difficult to sign?

tampering at its finest if you ask me. Where is Potamus when we need a legal POV

I think the Bengals could well file a grievance over this. It sounds like Cleveland reached terms with Hawkins and he signed a deal. Then before it was sent to Cincinnati, word was leaked that the Bengals would match. So the Browns and Hawkins revised the terms, Hawkins signed that and it's what Cleveland sent. Of course maybe the Bengals leaked word that they would match in order to encourage Cleveland to throw more money at Andrew.

I didn't take it as the browns changed the deal. Maybe I'm misreading the news.

The rumors sound true

Quote:
NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the Bengals are now unlikely to match restricted free agent Andrew Hawkins' four-year, $13.6 million offer sheet with the Browns.

Looks like hes gone now. That's a little too much for him anyway.

Would've really limited our flexibility the next two years AND would've forced us to move some of Green's future money deep into the years of '18, '19. Great move by not matching.

I think it is tampering and we should get #26 as compensation, if it can be proved that they changed the terms of the contract.

How is it tampering? Once the deal is physically signed the Bengals get it. They can't hold onto the thing til they feel like handing it over.

Its still closer than some are suggesting, and will be much closer this coming season IMO....... especially if they nab Hawkins.....

I like Cameron over Gresham too, but that's another argument.......
