Do the Bengals match?

With reports of a four-year offer sheet for Andrew Hawkins from the Browns, means #Bengals would have 5 days to match as RFA.

I'll bet the Bengals don't match. We have much better WR depth than Cleveland so he's probably worth more to them than to us. They also have more cap space, at least before their spending binge.

We still have well over 30 mil and some likely cap saving cuts to come

He can be upgraded in the mid-rounds. Dri Archer, De’Anthony Thomas, Tevin Reese, Jerrick McKinnon, etc.. These guys all return kicks & punts too, which is something that Hawk doesn’t offer.

I wouldn’t mind Hawk back, but I’m perfectly fine with replacing/upgrading him.

Potential upgrades. Hawk is an established player who has contributed to a real NFL team. Those guys are just prospects.

Hawk could be more than just a gadget player. Cleveland obviously values him more. I doubt Cincy matches if the rumors of the contract amount is correct.

4 years $12.2m and escelators that can take it to $14.9m.

Between $4 and $5m GTD.

What can you guys tell me about him?

One of my favorite players. He's a nightmare in space

I like Baby Hawk but not for that kind of money.

He's very dangerous with the ball in open space, but the problem is getting him the ball in open space. He's an effective weapon to use in the screen game, but QBs can lose him on deeper passes due to his lack of size. Maybe that's on Dalton though.

Hawkins is a good special teams player and a playmaker though, certainly fun to watch. I just think this is a bit steep for a guy like him though.

Well sure, it's all potential, nothing is a guarantee. As someone who studies the Draft year in and year out though, I feel like it's safe to say those guys SHOULD be upgrades. That's just my opinion. Also, those guys offer return abilities, which Hawk does not.

You are right though J, potential upgrades.

Doubt The Bengals match this. More snaps for Sanzenbacher.......

Bengals' plan is to match the offer sheet extended to Andrew Hawkins by the Browns.

Here are the details on the Hawkins deal, since it appears it might matter.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/andrew-hawkins/

I'm not sure how comfortable i feel with this. I mean, i wanted him back, but by the end of this deal he's going to be 32...

Reports had been that the Bengals wanted to use Sanu solely out of the slot. But where does this put Hawkins? What does that mean for Gresham and Eifert? And will Marvin Jones become a focus of the passing game (like he should)? There's still only one ball to throw around, and this team was supposed to be running focused this year.

Curious move to match. I can only think that they didn't want to see him in Cleveland. Makes me wonder if they would've matched a deal to say Minnesota or another NFC team.

This.

And Baby Hawk may not return kicks, but he is a great gunner.

You know how Mike Mayock likes to say "more quick than fast"? Hawkins is both. His most common knickname is Baby Hawk (because his older brother also played for us) but I call him Joystick. IMO he is one of the most underrated slot receivers in the league.
