Quote: | The Colts signed a similar player in DT Ricky Jean-Francois last offseason. Jones is the superior player. He can both push the pocket from the interior and plug holes against the run. Indy may still be in the market for a nose tackle. LE Cory Redding is coming off a career year for the Colts but will turn 34 this season. |

figured it deserves its own thread.
Great signing, when and if it is official

Fantastic signing that makes too much sense. Perfect fit in the system, 27 years old and coming into his prime.
RJF played decently when healthy, but like it said, Jones is a better player, proven starter that is simply more versatile. Great bookend to Cory Redding and having Fili Moala back as well gives our front line great depth and versatility.
Great job Grigs.
Only question is, do we keep RJF around at his $5.1 Million price tag? |

It will be interesting to see. RJF has $1.875 dead cap hit, so his release would save us a little over $3m to help pay for Jones.
RJF, might be on his way out the door though? _________________

The way I heard it, Jones would play passing downs and RJF running downs. Jones also would give the flexibility of playing NT at times. Moala would be Redding's backup and in 4-3 plays....
RJF
Chapman
Redding

This makes the most sense. If we keep RJF, I can see us letting Redding walk after this season. _________________

Where's Mathis supposed to play He isn't a SLB in a 4-3. We tried that years ago and it was not good. |

Breakdown of Jones's contract via OvertheCap
2014 -$4,500,000 Base, $1,100,000 sb = $5,600,000
2015 -$6,000,000 Base, $1,100,000 sb = $7,100,000
2016 -$4,500,000 Base, $1,100,000 sb = $5,600,000
2017 -$6,250,000 Base, $1,100,000 sb = $7,350,000
2018 -$6,250,000 Base, $1,100,000 sb = $7,350,000
That seems like a very reasonable contract for a young, proven starter DE with a ton of potential. I really like it. He's got a huge amount of versatility. Word is that he can basically play any position in the 3-4 as well as the 4-3. |

Good signing. I'm all for it and he should be familiar with Pagano's system. |

Should be a good fit. Boost your run defense and help collapse the pocket.
This must be his reaction when going back to Chuck Pagano from a Dean Pees' defense:

Really nice signing for the Colts. Jones is a very good player. _________________ I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Now I can only stutter in Spanish.
