It's not just starting capable or reclamation project.

Some of these guys are simply just depth as we had virtually none.

Brinkley - depth in the middle
Wootton - depth on the edge
Johnson - depth at the 3T, capable of playing 5T in 3-3-5 formations
Cox - only real reclamation project as he's the only player that has played at a starter level. An argument could be made for Wootton I suppose.
Coleman - safety depth an special teams ability. If Zimmer is going to continue rotating safeties, more depth is needed. If Blanton is strictly playing corner, more safety depth is needed.

I am a little concerned that nearly every free agent we've signed is labeled a "Zimmer reclamation project". Outside of Joseph and Munnerlyn, did we pick up anyone that can still play, without Zimmer fitting them with a pair of ruby slippers? How will Zimmer have time to be a Head Coach while running EST workshops for all the projects Spielman's been finding in the clearance bin at K-Mart?

You cant sign every top tier free agent out there. Money is limited. Time is limited.

MN will have to take on many lower level players just to fill out a roster. We are also switching schemes so there is usually more turnover. Once we get a couple of drafts under zimmer's belt, the roster will look stronger. Think of these signings as stop gaps, or filler. If they pan out, great! if not, we dont lose much.

Ultimately, drafting will be key.

Anyone else interested in Ronnie Brown?

Cheap, experienced, veteran RB that offers more as a backup than Asiata. Is a very capable receiver. I just don't get what the staff sees in Asiata to keep him around.

As a replacement for Asiata sure but I'd prefer to see the 3rd rounder get those reps.

Would agree he'd be a better back-up SHOULD something happen to AD. If he's cheap I'd throw an offer his way to push Asiata in camp at the very least.

**Although he doesn't really fit Spielman's M.O. as he is 32.

For a one year, vet minimum deal, I think that doesn't go against Spielman that much, but anything longer than that wouldn't work in Spielman's scheme.

Agreed, that's what I was trying to say I guess. Very Happy

I'm surprised Ronnie Brown is even still around. He was no more than average even in his prime.

If Mikel Leshoure or Stephen Hill get cut, would you bring them in?

I would take Leshoure over Asiata. No interest in Hill though. He just can't get it together.

Neither one of them is worth even really considering. Leshoure doesn't really offer much more than Asiata and Hill has zero work ethic and doesn't seem to realize that he's not really that good.
