The #Patriots will gain around $2.87 million in cap space from treatment of Brandon Lloyds option and settlement with Jon Fanene

. @MCal645 @Jason_OTC yes, so around $15.6M in cap space at @patscap has been indicating

Hopefully some extra room to keep Edelman and Talib (or Verner)

Still frustrating to know that we are being screwed by cutting Hernandez.

Cutting him was the only move to make, but for some reason we can't get cap relief.

Why should they get cap relief?

Yeah, I'm usually cold hearted when it comes to things such as this but there's no way the Pats should get cap relief for that, barring some evidence of him breaching his contracting before.

Pretty sure Murdering multiple people is a pretty standard breach of contract. Especially the code of conduct/personal conduct rules that the NFL has in place that is most definitely written into everyone's contracts.

He hasn't been convicted of anything. So he hasn't breached anything.

Teams don't get salary relief for cutting guys who get into drug, alcohol or other off-field problems. They don't get relief when guys die.

As it is, the Patriots cutting him before he was convicted really hurts their chances of recouping anything.

And it appears that the guys who made that decision are perfectly okay with it. An extra few million in 2016 would be a nice surprise, but I'm not planning on anything. Oh well.

Because Atlanta got cap relief from Vick. Hernandez violated the terms of his contract, granted, they should have to wait until he is convicted to get the relief, but they should be able to get the relief.

Once he is convicted the pats need to sue hernadez, when that is won, the nfl will give them credits.

It's not the same situation at all. Atlanta sued Vick for defaulting on his contract under a clause which allows teams to do so if a player is incarcerated and unable to show up. Hernandez was released before he ever had the chance to default in a similar matter. Furthermore, the bonus was paid out before the crime was committed, so unless he is found guilty of the 2012 incident, I don't see much legal standing for the Pats.

If Hernandez gets convicted of the 2012 incident and the Patriots win the appeal for cap space and money back I expect the $ will be a non issue then. I imagine by the time the dust settles Brady will have retired.
