I saw on bleacher report that Chris Russell (a redskins beat writer) was saying he'd would be very surprised if the Redskins didn't make Mitchell a top priority when FA kicks off. Bleacher report is also saying the Redskins are and will be making a big push for Talib. Thougths?

I think IF we are able to sign Mitchell AND Talib then I am for this. BUT if we can only sign one i'd rather not sign either and spend the money on Byrd.

Yeah, I wrote about this in the free agency thread. He should be our top target to replace Meriweather at FS.

I still hope Meriweather is re-signed to a cheap deal to be our SS, but we need someone like Mitchell at FS who's younger, faster and more athletic.

Cooley said when he watched him at times be reminded him of Polamalu he said the same about TJ Ward.

I agree though - Talib & Mitchell would be Aweosme.

If we can't get both, I would want Byrd first, with Ward second.

Byrd and Ward are both going get paid 7 million +, so why not go for the better coverage guy in Byrd.

DL needs to be our priority. Talib not so much.

I am really not sold on this FO going after Aqib Talib.

If they feel that FS is the best option to go, then by all means. Go all in for Byrd.

But he wants to go to a winner, which is why he turned down the richest contract for a S from Buffalo.

I am not sure how much of winning we could actually sell him on.

Pro football talk days we've been in contact with Mike Mitchell's agent about him playing in DC. Cool

We can't just put ourselves in a box.

The entire defense has holes from the DE position to the inside linebackers, corners and safeties.

We need to get the best players wherever we can.

Also, just because we don't sign the top DL available, doesn't mean we can't draft a defensive lineman in round 2 or 3.

The reason why you want to sign Mitchell is easy:

You can sign a CB like Talib (or one close to his caliber) and then sign Mike Mitchell as well because be won't cost more than 5 million a year.

Together, you can probably get them at a combined 10-12 million a year.

I say we do a revamp of our whole D in free agency grabbing an ILB in the draft, I honestly think Riley will be back bc he will see offers from other teams and know he isn't a top value, Riley is just a great fit for us.

I would be happy with this FA

FS Mitchell
SS ward
NT Linval Joseph
DE Arthur Brown
CB Walter Thurmand or Javier Arenas

OG Jon Asamoah
WR Kenny Britt
And if we have the extra cash after cutting Bowen and Chester see if we can get RT Anthony Collins

Draft I would look at guys like
WR Benjamin, Mathews in the 2nd or tevin reese/campanaro
ILB skov, Jackson, Borland
G Jackson, Richardson
T give me Seantrel Henderson I think he could be a steal
CB best PA in late rounds

That's my dream FA acquisitions with the draft board I would go with

Of course I have read rumors that we are interested in Arthur Jones for DE.

We have to understand that as much as we want to value the draft, there is a little chance that our picks will certainly work out.

Free agency is clear that we know what we are getting. So if we can build enough in FA, we have to do so.

But the draft has to be focused on areas that we need depth or improvement.

If we can land a few starters than that is awesome.

Really hesitant on how Mitchell will pan out.. hard to tell if he's being overrated from having the benefit of a fantastic front 7

we can't sign both Ward & Mitchell - we'd be spending 13-14 million on our starting safeties.

I think you mean Arthur Jones, not Brown from Baltimore... Right?

I like it though, eventhough I think it's far fetched unless we cut our entire starting offensive line and Bowen.

I want nothing to do with Britt, unless it's a vet min contract. I don't know why some ignore the off the field problems and lockeroom problems that come players bring. He was a party animal in Tennessee and you don't think he's going to be in DC?

I'd cut Bowen & Chester to sign Asamoah & Collins sounds great.

I can live with that, but I don't see the bolded two as 2nd round draft picks.

He was a decent safety in Oakland before going to Carolina

NO! Stay away! Evil or Very Mad

If you guys land Mitchell you'll be pleasantly surprised. I even wanted him more than Hardy when you factor in price.
