Yeah, I'd say unless someone's willing to take a sweet deal that only pays them $1m or less in Y1, we're not signing anyone else till after the draft. We're going to need that cap-space to sign our rookies... and before anyone bring up Clary - again, they're not going to create another hole just to create it and have the money to "maybe" sign someone else (and if that someone else wasn't a starter at another position, we're actually downgrading... even with it being Clary staying in that instance), Clary won't be cut (if he's cut) until there's someone on the roster legitimately threatening his starting spot (and even then, the team will likely use that as leverage to try to get him to take a pay-cut to stay and play his contract out).

Ever since i heard McCoy talk about Clary as a locker room example, I've lost hope of seing outright cut....

I understand there's no rush in cutting him right now, either.

LIS, I'm fully expecting - if he's actually given competition in camp and beaten out (which if there's any sort of prior to Day 3 investment in the position isn't hard to see happening), then they'll put the ball in his court and ask him to take a pay-cut. Which, Clary as a back-up - on back-up money - isn't bad to have considering he's depth (albeit not great quality depth) at 3 of the positions on the OL. That may be the best case scenario to hope for.

Dwight Freeney agreed to reduce his 2014 salary from $3.5 million to $2.5 million.
The move saves the Chargers just under $1 million against the 2014 salary cap. Freeney only played four games with the Chargers in 2013 after suffering a torn quad late in September. Freeney did not light up the boxscore before going down, but was generating consistent pressure for the Bolts. With Melvin Ingram healthy again, Freeney should be utilized as a pass-rush specialist in 2014.

If everybody stays healthy, this can actually work.

I'm kind of curious as to why they're continually clearing more and more cap space. We have the ~3m that it will cost to sign our rookies (with a late first round pick it costs a lot less), and now we're at about 7m in free cap space. I'm wondering if we're actually going to try to make a run at someone like Wilfork or James Jones or something. It'll be clear thats whats going to happen if we get Clary to take a pay cut IMO.

If we're not signing anyone, I dont really see the point in this move, unless TT just wants to save the Spanos' a few mil.

Wilfork?

Walter Thurmond?

I am confident the money will be spent.

It'll be spent. There are plenty of players available we can go after. The market is still settling. FA hasn't even been going on a week.

Apparently we made a contract offer for Steve Smith. So we're definitely out there in the game.

Hoping we can land Damian Williams for real cheap.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 2h
Now Giants officially have signed former Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond to a one-year, $3.5M deal.

Ajirotutu has never progressed into an asset at wide receiver, but was one of San Diego's top special teamers last season. He'll turn 27 in June.

He may not be special, but he's been pretty reliable. Rivers trusts him, which is also a good thing.

He's also a star on ST. Probably cost the minimum, so that's fine.

I 100% disagree with them saying he's never been an asset at WR. He has made some big first down clutch catches for us. He isn't sexy by any means but he could still develop into an Eric Parker type production player.

That guy would some how find a way to get open and make the catch on 3rd downs. I liked him.

So this is just a hypothetical I was thinking of: say Dunlap has an injury free season and still plays at the same level as he did last year. What contract would you give him?

He's not going to make top LT money ($9-$10m). I'd say $6.5-$7 for 4 years, maybe?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Little bit less than Veldheer on a per year basis considering injury and age.
